Apparently there's a lot of conflicting information going around and I'm hoping someone can clarify There are many saying ABS was only for '94, but there are those with earlier cars claiming to have it I also both Teves & Bosch names being mentioned Lastly- the production thread posted by Carbon that many of us refer to states 38 ABS cars, which is hard to believe, since it's not clear from his table if that is RHD or all So- Can anyone tell me how many 512TR's were produced with ABS??
How many produced i can't say but 94 was the year of the 512M diff, the ABS comes 93. 512 TR is a little bit like the early F40 with the non cat, non adjustment. 92 512 TR non ABS, non strong diff. just kidding... The 94 have the bonus of having the stronger 512 M diff. But for example the Forza diff is better than the 512 M diff and so older cars can be upgraded and the non ABS is technical not that good but it is cool in a way the car has very old school driving experience! I like the non ABS TRs. Sorry for OT!
Some cars have ABS switch so it can be turned off for a track day, etc But how many ABS cars produced?
The 38 number represents the total RHD production. ABS was introduced on the model generally, from October 1993 production (info from 'red headed' web site) BR, Jez
I just saw a car listed in Europe at $100k more than the others in the list and advertised as if it had bragging rights in the heading as an ABS car. Can we verify please total ABS production because I've heard both interpretations of the 38 figure...
ABS is often use as a sellimg point from seller but it is no rare option and i'm sure there are much more than 38! But nobody, except Ferrari can give an exactly info!
I disagree ..... its very rare if you want a RHD one , there are more 250 GTO's in the World than RHD 512TR's with ABS! ;-)
If that's true, then 38 cars would refer to total 512TR production Now that I think about it- Why would ABS production figure be quoted for RHD only? Makes no sense I believe 38 units may be total ABS production for 512TR http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ferrari-discussion-not-model-specific-sponsored-algar-ferrari/196388-ferrari-road-car-models-production-numbers.html
Rare does not mean desirable... ABS seems irrelevent because 512 TR's are less and less driven in the rain these days...
Hi Alex, I don't know of any Ferrari owners that would ever choose to drive their cars in the rain!! I am personally very grateful for the weather app on my phone, that allows me now to plan my drives 5-10 days in advance! For sure, in this very buoyant market, owners (sellers!) are actively looking for anything to elevate their particular model/year of car to a 'special' status ..... i guess RHD and ABS , is as good a reason as any, hence my facetious comment comparing these with the 250GTO BR, Jez
I have ABS and a very low 94 serial # 96901 Manufactured april 93 Who has the lowest # with abs ? What is your manuf date? Apparatus on both sides of car ahead of forward bulkhead Amazing because there was empty space previous to abs Almost like they knew it was coming Image Unavailable, Please Login
I for one wouldn't own anything I didn't love, but the active market right now seems to choose to define many things and monitoring any market of which you are a member is only natural. By way of just one example, a final year '89 328 as a smaller portion of 328 cars boasts ABS and a few other subtleties, and the market price categorizes them separately. As 512TR's age and become more sought, especially in this active market we are presently experiencing- these cars are being defined Late cars demonstrating ABS and minor updates show signs of analogous market evolution An ABS quoted production number is indicative in itself
As stated above, I saw a car advertised in Europe among a large helping of 512TR's and the ad includes ABS in its headline to support a extra healthy ask So it furthers my curiosity...
I have a 1992 Japanese spec car and mine has ABS with the switch to turn on/off. Apologies this does not help with total production numbers but it disproves everyone claiming only 1994 cars have ABS.
Could it have been a dealer retrofit , Alex? Honestly i have never heard of a 93 delivery with ABS, let alone a 92 , especially with the button to deactivate it .... Alledgedly, the button was only ever fitted to the RHD models, from the factory, and i seem to recall that you beauty is a LHD...... certainly intriguing! Regs, Jez
Hey guys-OK I am on the registry as "96535 - '93 512TR - Red/Black - Japan, Tokyo" but I assure you my car was registered in 1992. In Japan there is no model year only register year. I have yet to figure out which differential i have but I am certain this ABS unit was not added later. It is strange but I have yet to find anyone in Japan with a 512TR to discuss these things with. I rely on this forum as I am unsure what was sent to Japan and when. I have also noticed later models have black colored air boxes like mine but usually have Denso starters. my now dead starter was a Bosch unit. Ans not being a US car I have an assembly number plate but no manufactured date plate. I don't think Euro spec cars have them either.
I have the button on mine- a '94 Swiss market car I believe it was first included on cars because it was noted that track times were better with ABS off
Alex, '93 model year cars can no doubt be produced in '92, hit the showroom and be sold in late '92- Could that be you?

P?? That doesn't really tell you the manufacturer's model year The whole thing is interesting though...
I have a 95 year RHD 512tr but with the pop up lights its not the 512m, I would think this would be one of the last with ABS before the M version. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jez is correct, there were a total of 88 UK RHD 512TRs of which 38 were ABS. And a total of 2280 512TRs produced by the factory (including all UK cars). I have no figure on total ABS produced by factory. Statistics from Ferrari UK.
