Ciao Tutti, Was wondering if there are any specifics (difficulties) in performing a self oil change/filters on a BB512 ?? Motlo Grazie Carlo
Fill the oil filters with oil before you fit them and as correctly said already lubricate the seal first.
I've accomplished a few, but NOT neatly. It's an amazing capacity of oil it holds, and so far, I've always managed to spill some. Ideally, it would be nice to control the oil from the filters when they come loose - be prepared - - - -twice! Otherwise, it's pretty straight forward.
Thanks for the heads up... For the oil change, since it's a dry sump, I wasn't sure if it had any specifics... If it's straight forward, I should be able to do it... Cheers Carlito
is it like a Porsche? drain the dry sump tank and then drain the engine sump as well? If so, can someone please post a pic of the engine sump drain plug?
If I'm not mistaken, for sure at least every 2 years, no matter how many miles/kilometers you drive, that is with classics... You could also do it at least every year if you're picky...
I am just now removing engine from my car and took photo for "what is coming" Oil starts to come out as soon as you loose filter, half a liter is around number, so get that pucket ready! left side filter needs to be tilted to get it out and expect some more oil from there. Ohhhh Yeah!!! You always remember your first time! I drained all the other spots, and (foolishly) assumed that was most of it. Then I pulled one of the filters, and it was a deluge of oil. I had a pan ready, but wasn't expecting the volume. 45 minutes of cleaning later - - - - - - - - - I thought, well both filters are on the same oil galley, so that must have been the bulk of it. Wrong! The second filter seemed to be holding back as much as the first. 45 minutes of cleaning later! Subsequent changes have been slightly neater. How we love them so!!!!
before you loosen the filter punch a hole in the bottom of each filter and wait until there is no oil coming anymore, or nearly no oil. this for me is absolutely normal and I have not mentioned it in my post no. 2 here
Good advice...especially when the filters is mounted like that. Will try it next time....Intelligent Romano
I don't know.. how long has oil been underground ? As far as I know oil doesn't have an expiration date. It has a contamination and detergent breakdown limit. Of course the dealer will tell you otherwise.
once a year I change the oil in all of my cars, even if only driven 500 km. if you only drive such a little km and then also only short distances the oil temperature never will get high so that the condensation will never go out of the oil. and condensation is water, and water means rust and less lubrication.
