Got up and personal with one of these for the first time the other day. It looked a lot better in person than I expected and same with the quality of work.

Has anyone ever driven one? Is the decrease in rigidity pretty noticeable and how does it drive?

    Sorry for the crappy pics.

They do look pretty good but to me the chassis is rubber. I think it ruins the car.

A TR is not very stiff to start with, cutting off the roof was just not a good idea with this car.

    I had a Straman..1986
people are quick to comment on atrocity
I believe other Chop Shops may have done poor jobs..
    However Straman did not..
He learned from previous conversions ie..Daytonas, just what needed to be done.
In my car..there were enlarged door sills parallel to the original sills both from underneath the car and inside the cockpit. the interior braces were upholstered to look OEM.
There were horizontal braces also welded in at the base of the rear firewall.
Underneath the car there was an additional perimeter of square tubeing throughout as well as new diagonol braceing.
As being the owner of 4 other testarossa's
I detected no flex on a True Straman conversion..cant speak for others and there are plenty.
my car was commisioned for the Blackhawk collection and was done right...
    I miss it dearly.

The only real weakness was the A Pillars...they needed a phyisically impossible reinforcement.

I am quite familiar with the true Stramans and my comments were directed at them. We felt the same about the Straman Daytonas too. Yes they did flex, quite a bit.

If you had the Blackhawk car, that was one of the cars I had experience with.

I remember jacking the car to remove a wheel
The jack was placed ahead of the drivers side rear wheel
The entire left side came up, and the drivers door operated as normal

This flex debate is old news now
    Mine was fine

    Btw
Straman only made a dozen or less himself
    But sold kits at random
Possibly in wrong hands this car was loose

190K in recommissioning on a 415Kms car. Ill bet its a nice one.
I guess the question is whats it for. Today there are any number of super fast convertibles you can buy from Ferrari and others.
Interesting to see what it goes for, low miles always fetch big premiums and the pinifarina provenance means the conversion is not a negative.

And how many of those are mid-engine Flat 12s?
