Anybody have any ideas of a source for the pictured insulation? Not necessarily concours needed, just something black and effective. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good luck!!! NLA - there have been a few threads on this in the past. If I remember correctly there used to be a similar material that Mercedes used, but I believe that is now unobtainable. If you find a source I would be VERY INTERESTED!
Guys 1,2 anda 3, could you PM me some closeups of the insulation, it appears to be grainy with round indents. The reason I ask is I am getting some quite good results with vacuum bagging and closed cell injected foam insulation on a Beemer I am working with and this is not too far removed, be happy to put it in the system if I can get it more than passable. Not making any promises at this stage, but it looks workable. Cheers PeteK WA
Sure looks like the insulation material used on W126 model Benz and Porsche 944 hoods. Might take some trial & error to find a good repo or OEM pad to cut up.
Pete - Have you had any responses. If needed I can send you a piece of mine in an envelope. The photo in the first post is a good representation. I am in the state of Washington (WA) in the US. When I first saw your post and location, Perth, WA, my first thought was I did not know where Perth WA was, then it hit me. Bob
I am still interested as well and as stated previously, the first picture in the thread is a really good representation.
I had to pull a similar insulation pad off my 512TR's engine hood. I was considering using this as a replacement; Amazon.com: FatMat Hood-Liner 34" x 54" x 3/4" Thick Self-Adhesive Automotive Sound Deadening Hood Liner - Black Urethane Face: Automotive
