I know this has been posted a bunch, but I can't find it. Can someone tell me where it is / post the link - please? Looking for the # of injected Boxers built in '83. Sounds like an EZ thing to find, but not finding it. Thanks F-chatters.
Book Review: Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer:The Road and Race Legends by Nathan Beehl All the Serial Numbers are listed in this book by year.
Its missing a bunch of chassis numbers. I have some that the book doesn't and when I got the book I added the numbers I didn't have on my list!
Well we know 1009 don't exist anymore or whatever the actual number was. I would be curious how many survive as for a decade or two Boxers were just used cars. Quite a few of them were parted out.
Thanks guys. Looking for just 1983 512BBi's built. The 1009 number covers 1984 / 83 / 82 / 81 In 1983, Ferrari made other model like the 400i / 308 / Mondial I found a number for all cars built in 83 - something like 2300(?), but how many were 512BBi's. Probably find by digging thru old FML's. I checked Nathan's book, and it's more of a registry trying to account for cars in existence at time of publishing.
According to Frank R. Masiarz, there were 487 bbi produced in 1983 Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer Image Unavailable, Please Login
They are Le Mans Competition Cars ("C" for Competizione). I guess the real question is what is the difference between BB512/C and BB/LM since both are LM Competition Cars. Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, but 487 cars averages out to ~ 2 cars being completed /day. IIRC, a Boxer takes about 45 days to build start - to - finish, so it's a slow moving assembly line. Think about a team building engines. Once established with inventory, and practice, I wonder how many team members it would take to build ~2 motors/day. Hard to think about given the build process - I mean there must be sub-assy of cylinder heads, water pumps, foundry etc.
The early Competizione cars looked like boxers with added on parts. The later LM cars were rebodied sort of resembling a boxer.
I never realized that there were less BB & BBi cars built than 246 GT & 246 GTS. Wouldn't that imply that the BB & BBi are more rare??
Yes they are George but rarity alone(and 12 cylinders) doesn't make them more valuable. A Dino is an aesthetic masterpiece and a proper example is an absolute joy to drive. They are seductive in every respect.
My Boxer's VIN 48171. I always considered it an '84 even though maybe it's not? It is registered in '84. It does have all the '84 factory updates too. I know the steering wheel is the updated version and the equalizer is the 7 switch. I believe there are a few more differences.
I have known about the BBi s since I was a kid growing up, I have always loved that Ferrari. I thought they only came to the States as grey market cars, brought in by individuals who bought them from Europe. I wish Ferrari built as many Boxers as they did with the 3x8 s . Thank you
