MM355, a couple of Monocle reader types (design guys, not car guys) circled round to the car and said Wow, what an amazing car, when is it from? I said 1995. They said it looked 80s and I said yes, the original was from 1984. They took some selfies.

How different are your TR and M to drive?

 

Thank you Dominic. Every minute is memorable in one of these, as you know. It was also the first time I'd driven it in the rain, which, done properly, I think could be quite fun, until it suddenly isn't.

These cars look like nothing else before or after and the 512M feels 80s though it's a 95. I keep forgetting to bring the Giorgio Moroder/Careless Whisper/Hall & Oates tapes.

 

I drove past groups of German schoolkids, small, age 6-10, on the way up through London. The entire groups of little boys turned around clustered together and shouted "Ferrari"! and gave me a thumbs up. I mentioned this in the talk. These cars scream Ferrari, even if the midengined 12 cyls were just an interlude.

 

Will pass that on.

 

I have a gated 430 spider and it gets more looks and thumbs ups from the newest generation than even my 512 does.

Also - and this is a slightly odd thing to say I know - it's mainly boys (small and grown up) who look at the 512 while the 430 attracts attention from everyone.

To drive, I'd like to report the 430 is boring in comparison, but actually it's a hoot.
