MSD 6A if you need to replace the Dinoplex (not 6AL). Reason being the 6A goes right on whereas the 6AL requires modification by MSD to work on a 12 cylinder engine. The RPM limiter isn't needed. You can take it a step further and put the MSD 6A internals in the Dinoplex box.

I replaced my MSD with a much smaller and neater unit by ICE from Australia. Very high spark energy and has been great for last 7 years.
Feel free to make an offer on my redundant MSD unit,
    Cheers

MSD makes a smaller unit as well called streetfire which Ive installed on V8 cars but if I wanted to fit it inside the dinoplex I would be out of luck because its square. The 6A fits and its inexpensive.

Can you replicate the whine of the Dinoplex? Oh, and for good measure I guess we'd need the MSD box to fail ever so often to be a direct replacement! ;-)

I know of enough people that had problems with MSD, not Ferrari related.

I agree, I've actually gone to Mallory after a couple of MSD failures in race cars.
It was just a feeble attempt at humor.

My Dinoplex box whines when I turn the key, so I know right away its going to start.
About 10% of the time I hit the key and only hear the hum of the fuel pumps, no ignition, so I know it's not going to start then. It's temperamental for sure. I have not identified why it sometimes does not seem to "come on" or whine. Totally intermittent.

Rumor has it: MSD boxs made in China for $17. Been told 10% failure rate. Hard to beat OEM.

I have a 512 bbi with a Jones Electronics FC3000 which is acting up. I'm interesting in replacing it with an MSD or the original box if those are still available.

I don't know. When we were working on Dinoplex cars day in and day out we sure replaced a lot of them. I know no one that was in the Ferrari business in those days that ever considered them a quality piece. My experience with MSD is light years ahead of my experience with Dinoplex's. We were very happy when Ferrari started using the Digiplex's and then the Microplex's.

Just be aware that aftermarket distributor caps and rotors do not like the msd. You will find that you will have cap and rotor failures. I was stranded twice with my BB512 because of this.

Yes, do not go over the top with coil.
