Greetings from the 308 world... I have a family friend who's father passed. They have a '86 Testarossa that he owned and want to sell. They came to me to try and get the thing priced and sold. They are trying to source some recent service history. They know there was a recent service... timing belt was replaced recently... exhaust was replaced. Pricing seems to be all over the place and I really have no clue... ... so I come to you: the pros. What is this car worth without service history, just handing someone keys and a car, after getting the car checked out?? Based on the pics, is there anything AMAZING about this car? Anything obviously an issue? I am really just trying to get info to share with them and possibly a realistic price. Feel free to DM me if interested. Cheers! I always thaught that from 1 mirror to 2 mirrors F changed in 1987? but this car should be a 1986 - strange has the car the original diff inside? then you just may deduct between 10k and 15k
I was going to say, this looks like an 87. 19k miles is low, but not collector low. Probably in the 110k ballpark, based on trends (check my posts in the Values thread).
Is that a 1981 Cadillac Baritz in the background of the second picture ? Now that is rare ...whose car is that ? As for your TR , I suggest good pictures and eBay it to see what you could get and use that as a point of reference.
He was talking about the driver side door post aluminium plate that also has the production date. But this pic of the VIN shows the 10th digit as a G which is 1986. Now, why is it dual mirror?
I'd like to see a pic of the central console so we can have a look at the mirror control. When it's a mono the control is there. Maybe we could see an after market mod...just saying...
The car has dual mirrors probably because it was changed long ago to look like the newer models. The high single mirror MAY be a good thing now, but possibly in 1986 it didn't get such admiration. I also own a 1986 car that was changed to the lower dual mirrors. I can see where the original mirror was mounted and the hole welded or filled. Of course I'd like to change mine BACk to the single high mirror!
Metric wheels is a minus (i'm sure it needs new tires.) Dual low mirrors is a minus. Folks buying a 1986 want the single flying mirror. Paint looks good. Engine might need some deferred maintenance. No pics of interior.
Look like it has been upgraded. Here is a picture a 1990 dual mirror console. Switch in different location. Also the 86 single mirror switch is totally different. Image Unavailable, Please Login
In my 85 monospec the control is different like Claude is saying but at the same place than yours. So yes all this looks like an aftermarket mod. And like you said, back then it might have been an "upgrade" but today I'm just wondering if you could revert it back for more money when selling...this...I don't know.
Here are some more pics, including the info plate. Going to be take some better pics to post for sale. Some questions: - Given what we have (and don't have), what is this car worth? - What is the best place list for sale? Again- I am helping out a family friend who really has no idea what to do with the car and I come to you as this is out of my 308-league. Much appreciated!! Very seriously if they want to sell in a short time I'd say 75-85k. From the pictures I can see a lot of details telling the car is not perfect at all. From your description this is my honnest feeling. This is just another testarossa for sale in an ocean of testarossa for sale. A car has to be attractive to sell. If the car itself is not anything special amoung others, the price has to be. Then it will sell! If priced like all others it will be for sale forever like all the rest. I've always sold my cars fast because of that thinking. Just my opinion and I'm not an expert at all.
Yes if you want a "just hand over the keys " no service history and no questions quick sale , $75k-85k. But with a little effort ,obtaining the records and doing a current service , it could be over $100k Is taking the time worth such effort ? I'd certainly say so
Having just taken an 86 TR in for service I would advise selling it without the service. My car is well loved and checked/serviced yearly yet the major still cost $28k to get everything done which was double the expected amount. Just FYI
Yes, sell it without service at a heavy discount. Bringing my car up to snuff after sitting over 2 decades cost me about $33,000 for a nose to tail service and full systems rebuild.
