Hi guys, Can anyone tell me if it's easy and from where to access the ac fan (in the dashoard?) after years of making a squiky noise it died yesterday (after making the fuse blow). Any idea where i can get instruction, if it's fairly reasonable to do i may give it a look myself, if not then i'll take it to the garage. Thanks a lot
obovis would be great if you could fill out your profile and introduce yourself a little this would help you to get more answers and all other here in this forum thank you
Hi thanks for the answer, and yes turbo-joe I will fill in my profile, thanks for the advice. All the best
More fabulous engineering. Always designing for the best access. :-(. Plus, I'm sure the parts are readily available. Sounds like a $5000 fix at a dealer. Or a 3 week project at home.
only 3 weeks??? thank you for filling out your profile. you may post a photo from your 512 TR please? the dash goes out easy, you will be surprised
The dash probably does come out fairly easy, but the cut open the housing part sounds like it will get MacGyveresk at best. I have concerns as my AC works perfect, for a Boxer, but my fan motor is a bit noisy.
For me it started by some squicky noise that was more noticeable as i was breaking (?)... i guess it was putting pressure on the bearings, and then ramping up the speed helped to kill it, until.... it was not enough... Any good link that shows a step by step how to take the dash out ? I'll post a picture of the car next taken in Dordogne in France Thanks a lot
This is true of a huge number of cars, most of which are a nightmare to disassemble and are disposable POSs to boot. Just as with women, the finer an automobile is the more of a PITA it can get away with being. The 512TR is about as good as it gets, so it gets a pass for being a PITA on occasion.
Hi all Just to keep you posted on the progress if of any use to others : So the option to take the dash out was the tough and expensive one..... hoping that I could find a replacement fan..... But a local dealer gave me a great second option, he removed the fuse box in the trunk of the car ... only 2 screws, from there bending your hand you could touch the fan itself that indeed was locked completely. Then he drilled 3 holes in the platsic chassis of the fan box itself just behind the fuse box and sprayed oil to remove the grip, fews mins after spraying, rotating the fan with hand then re-connecting it a bit of sqweeking noise for 2/3 secs and .... miracle the fan came back to life ! We let it run for several mins to make sure the oil was making its job and few days after everything works like a charm ! Initially smell a bit as the fan blows but will disapear for sure after some time ! So here you go i hope it can help others definitelly a good piece of work and a great advice from them !
Olivier, is that the Chateau de Mercues? If so I stayed there when I was much much younger. Beautiful place.
I had to do this all too .... all because one bearing was 2 mm (!) worn. Cost of parts $300, cost of labour $3000 ... replaced the motor with SPAL 011-A40-22 12volt Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks a lot melvok, am sure it can be of use either in future or may be for someone else ! Actually i did not dismantled it but was still interested to see how it lloked like inside and your pics helped, if ever you have some more dont hesitate to publish them as they may be of use Thank you !
