So... finally I am getting the cats back on my car from Ferrari... Firstly I am stunned of the cost of brand new cats: 12,000$ ...crazy to me... Now i am thinking compared to the straight pipe I had I will lose a bit of power and maybe sound too... I am then thinking of removing the precats. I have read a lot on this forum but I'm still trying to ascertain whether you do Gain any performance taking them off? What's ur experience? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am jut trying to see what other users think of the precats....I am reading they are a terrible design...most of them seems to get rotten with age and heat anyways Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Test pipes are fantastic. Great improvement. I would move out of California and slap some test pipes on that b*tch. So worth it. R
Well currently it was sold to me with test pipes replacing the main cats. Those are being replaced with real cats for smog purposes. Are there test pipes for precats too? If you have main cats on why would it be prohibited in California to delete pre cats? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes. Pre cat test pipes are great. Quicker throttle response and great sound. Those pre cats are very restrictive. They are junk. R
Ok- I jut know hyperflows are super expensive I am thinking a custom shop could help me make something for like $500 but I may be delusional Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Does anyone know where to buy good pre cats pipes? If Anybody have their for sales I'm taking Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They are getting harder to source. Tubi can make a set. Probably a 3 to 6 week turn around. Ut you better hurry. Everything shuts down it Italy for the month of August. They no longer list them on line. But if you call tubi USA they can make them. Also TRutlands had a set of factory ones for sale for ok money. R
I thought factory ones are the ones I have which melt and inhibit performance?must have missed something Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I believe all US TR "should" have pre-cats (it's not just a CA requirement). The requirement to have them was driven by US emission standards starting to include limits for cold-running emissions vs time after cold start-up. Can't disagree that they are troublesome and prone to failure, but essentially all modern cars use the same concept where the catalytic element is mounted as close as possible to the exhaust ports. Your analysis is correct -- a warm-running TR with just main cats will meet its warm-running emission limits easily.
Is there no in-between solution for TR's thinkable ... in 458 they sell 200 Cell versions that make noises!
@nat, Found the pics I had for my pre-cat delete pipes that were custom made from place I told you about. Pics are before I replaced main cats with straight pipes. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks really cool. Someone from forza Motorsport phoned me this morning to assist. The person I spoke to was not recommending me straight piping not just for emission perspective but also also that it would mess up the 02 sensor. Do you have the same issue. He also said there was no real gain power with test pipe or pre cat delete... I kind of find that hard to believe otherwise would most people do this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No issues and it's been about a year since I had no cats. As far as power gain, it's more responsive from mid to high rpms along with the rumble.
I believe u I guess maybe wanted me to buy a new muffler instead lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Your right about that because not many if anyone sells the pre-cat delete pipes. I did see one last year and it was a factory pre-cat delete pipe selling for 2,500.00.
Tubi exhaust 7k...for this price I'd rather have the stage 3 capristo. I think ur install looks really neat and I'm confident it's less than 1k. I love it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
