Actually the first road car crashed was the very first one made - XP1 - occuring March 24th, 1993, before any other F1s had been built. The car was destroyed at the hands of BMW test driver Roman Scherer in the Namibian desert of Africa while undergoing hot weather testing. He took his eyes off the road to look at some equipment in the car and drifted off line at 170mph, striking a curb and causing the car to tumble through the desert flipping over several times. He lived to tell about it, and so did the car briefly, but after landing on its roof, oil leaked out of the engine and onto one of the exhaust manifolds setting the car on fire.

The crash you may be confusing with that story was the one of Bernd Pischetsrieder (former BMW chairman) who actually totalled an F1 with his mother-in-law in the car so the story goes. Oops...

Anyway, I'd love to see whatever you have by whatever means possible. All the photos in my F1 collection are not "desktop wallpaper" quality - in fact some of the older, grainy photos that have made it onto the web recently often tell the best stories.

Here's those shots from the factory I've mentioned a few times.

What a car! I love that color^^^

Peloton, in your last post, those bad quality pics have "The Discovery Chanel" logo in the top right corner. Any idea what show that was?

Here you go Sir, go to this link:
http://dsc.discovery.com/beyond/player.html

Then go to the Video Search Button and just type McLaren. The only clip that will pop up is the episode "Beyond Tomorrow: McLaren"

Yeah, score another Web link for the CHUNKYMONKEY!

No worries, service fees will not be applied...lol j/k

Just checked some of the pics but I've got loads to go through and wont be able to scan until tomorrow.

The brown one? In the picture I cant even make out what colour it is the quality of light is that bad but so far I've found pictures of

A black one
A silver one from a previous Glasgow motor show
A GULF GTR number 16

plus theres the one i dont have a clue what colour it is but at the time I'm sure it was brown as I remember thinking BROWN? I may have other pictures but regardless, I will post on all i have and others.

Kinda gutted!

Regards,

Matthew

Someone else brought this one to my attention already. The chassis number isn't known with 100% certainty, but after a few days of people putting their heads together on it I am leaning towards calling this chassis #039.

The ExoticSpotter photo was the first time I had seen a photo of this car. The second shot was discovered shortly thereafter by the person who sent me the original link.

He told me all the same stories about the reputation of that city and suggested it was quite odd to see something like that there.

Any Road will take you there

I posted this video in the Beatle's thread
but Big Mac fans are more likely to watch it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8zQ0ZNn8VU

pay attention when it clocks at 2:38

there's the quiet Beatle G. Harrison driving a Mc Laren

was it his?
is it already accounted for?

It's now his sons - RIP George - and it's believed to be chassis #025 PS It also has a set of highly polished wheels too

There's a three page discussion running here in the Silver Subscribed section:

http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=332767

It was also mentioned and discussed in the McLaren F1 pics thread found in the Gallery forum:
