I am a Ferrari owner (458 spider) and big fan (I do have a McLaren 12c too). Anyhow, in case you are interested, some pics from the showing of the P1 today in Palo Alto. In person, it looks very nice. A lot of detail doesn't come through in the pics. Interior is like a fighter cockpit. Active rear spoiler extends past the rear to overhang a foot or so (I was told). Like F1 it has anti-drag button on the steering wheel. Another button on the steering wheel wasn't identified, but I suspect KERS.

The rear grill picture has black out behind it to hide the motor.

    No technical specs released yet.

It sure has lots of curves 'n stuff! I'm sure it's a titan of a performer but almost nothing from Ron Dennis and Co. does much for me. The original F1 is a slight exception...

I didn't like it when I first saw the pics. The organic shape has grown on me. Not for everyone for sure, but then again, most people couldn't afford one.

Kind of like Bangle's flame surfaces... very radical at first but seems to make sense over time.

Great period of time in the hyper-car industry!

Thanks for posting. I agree that it is not a good looking design at all. I'm all for function but .... meh.

Another example of an overcooked design with no art but high "Look at me" impact.

There are so many examples like this that one is actually bored by it. Another generic design suitable for a tire ad.

This car has grown on me over time. When I saw the press release photos, I thought it was fugly. Seeing more photos and videos like the one posted by Jim, I like the design. Also, watching how this car has been developed and the fact that all the design cues are actually functional and purposeful makes it all the more interesting to me. I look forward to seeing one in person.

I like it a lot in person. I'd also bet that it will be the fastest street legal car ever at The Ring. My guess remains at 6:55 on the NS.

I saw a video from a car spotter that showed the P1 in full-camo on the road. I was surprised at how small the car looked compared to all the other cars on the road. From the video, it looked comparable to an Audi TT in terms of size. A friend of mine (member on this forum as well) has placed a deposit on the P1 and will be going overseas to see it next month during a full viewing for potential buyers. He said that the overall size is comparable to a Porsche GT3. Can you confirm on the size, Jim?

I thought this car was just a rolling chassis, with no motor and no interior? Hence the blacked out windows.

So if you buy a highly customized version, will it be named P1 4/5?

I was in the interior. Very purposeful but not utilitarian.

Engine was not exposed though, so don't know if this was just a rolling chasis.

Size-wise, it is similar to a 12C or a 458 (or the 911 for that matter).

My next one will be more compact than the P1, F70 or 918. We're aiming for Dino Competizione size, under 2000lb and a TT producing about 500HP.

I'd like to see what the P1 looks like in a color other than the orange.

    Thanks for sharing.

I guess I missed this. Was it at the McLaren dealership on El Camino? Or somewhere else?

Yeah, I really don't like orange. I was shown a picture/rendering in white and it looked really good. More attractive IMO than all naked carbon.
