Ya know, this really doesn't do it for me. It's like someone's idea of what classic car design should be like today. It's somehow... phony. It's like a sequel to a great movie that someone wants to bring back because they miss the original but it's too old fashioned for the masses. I think if they took out the Duesenberg engine from every Model J and put in a Chevy V8, a modern gearbox, electronic switches and gauges, and disc brakes... it might be a better car for modern roads and modern tastes-- but that wouldn't make it a better car. It would be worse.
I like it. The low-drag E is iconic, just like the normal E, they've done some development where it counts, just like you can with any E, re-introduced the aluminium block, which is great, and made it into a beautiful looking drivable car. Yes, it's a niche-market proposition, a boutique-car if you will, but it makes sense. Nobody really needs a 1000HP car that would be un-drivacle if it were not for the electronics keeping it on the road other than for bragging rights. If you like E's, and who doesn't, but are seeking something that has the creases ironed out, Eagle is a good place to start looking. Does it warrant the price they are asking for these gems? Not so sure about that. Best, Jack.
Great Post. Wait till Jeremy gets his hands on this one.. If you've owned an E in the past..you will agree..This is the cats meow.. A myth thats now in production. Beautiful job..derserves the Nobel prize for artistry!!!! When he had his hand on the shifter, it brought back the memory of the vibration that comes from an XKE engine through the gearbox... Step on the pedal, you feel the play in the universal joints take up, the rear squats ever so slightly on its Koni's and a pencil sharpener smoothness comes upon you as speed silences the outside world... like nothing else on earth!Love it!
Imagine that, TheMayor doesn't like something. Sometimes I think you'd be sour with free candy... "Belgian chocolate... *sigh* I'm more of a Swiss chocolate guy." Meant with respect and good-natured humor.
