So does this mean used 2014 Vantage S' just took a 40-50k depreciation hit since I can buy a new one for 100k? Id love to pick up a 2010 for around 50k when the prices adjust themselves, but I feel bad for the people that just bought a new one.
Yup. Ouch. That said, maybe no one will buy one anyway. This car is a pretty, but outdated POS. AM is dead until AMG technology gets inside them. You'd really have to love AMs to want to spend even $100K on such a car. $100K is without options, btw. Add a few nice options and you're in territory of much, much better cars.
This car feels like a stop-gap to avoid having the new Jag Ftype Coupe put AM out of business before fresh models/technology can be brought to market. It is an intriguing car at $100K - if the car isn't too de-contented.
Definitely wouldn't call AM dead and old POS. I think they could use a new vantage, with a revised interior, but these things aren't about outright speed obviously. I totally would spend the money for a vantage replacement even if it's not as good as other stuff on the market. The looks alone do it for me, not to mention the doors, badge, and exhaust note.
That was their original target price, wasn't it? To be a 911 competitor? They would have sold 3x as many (same with Maser and the GT and Audi for the R8) if they would have truly kept it at the same price as a 997S or now 991S in the $90-100k range. Not $130-145k.
I think at the same price the Vantage is way more desirable than a 911 (non GT3) unless you have to have 4 seats. I think overall they have sold pretty well considering the small dealer coverage. Seems crazy cheap at 99k to me for such a nice car. Most 911's I see on the lot near me are 120k plus.
Just like the 991, it's probably way more than $99K when you add the options. A nice C2S is now between $135-150K. I think this would end up at least $120K once you add some options. The 991 is a massive rip-off, but at least it's a modern car with a lot of new technology. The same can't be said for this AM. All AMs are pretty ancient in terms of technology relative to the competition. AM makes nice looking cars, but you don't need to buy a 2014 if looks are all that matter because they've looked pretty similar for years now and the engines haven't changed much either. In any case, if I had around $120K to spend on a car, it wouldn't be a 991 or a AM. A used R8 V10 is the one to have in that price range. The only AM I'd want is the new Vanquish, but even that is absurdly expensive and not nearly worth it when you consider what else you can buy for $250K. I guess the conclusion, to me at least, is that AM is not a good deal under any circumstance right now.
Agreed, I can tell you after owning 2 AM's, you will likely lose $ from massive depreciation. Especially if you get a new one. Beautiful cars, but way underpowered. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My first AM was a V8V Nurburgring Edition N420 in lightning silver. Probably most beautiful colored car I'd ever owned. It handled well but didn't have a lot of torque - felt slow off the line. I traded it in 3 mos. for my first 430 spider. About a year later I picked up the DBS in casino royals because these cars are so dang seductive. Again I felt it was very elegant and used it as my DD for about a year. I just felt that a V12 with 510 HP is underpowered, especially with other V12's pushing 700 hp. Even the new Vanquish barely pushes 565 HP. I understand that AM's are really GT's but their engines are behind the times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's what I'm thinking. The Vantage is a spectacular car. 07-08 Vantages are an amazing value right now as well. A lot of car for the money. I wonder what effect this new one will have on the value of the earlier 4.3L models?
4.3 liter cars are $50-60k and still dropping. I agree an early 4.7 car will be a tremendous value once the Vantage GT hits showrooms.
Drove one all over Tahoe last weekend. It did not impress me. You really had to mash on the pedal to get it going. And acceleration was not spectacular, even compared to a 355. Handling was sloppy compared to a 911. It held the line, but had to be guided. And steering was overassisted at speed. Car felt big. Cars that handle well feel small and nimble. Braking was decent, but not spectacular.
Interesting feedback. One of my pet peeves is overboosted/too light steering. I have heard complaints from a few Vantage drivers that the steering was actually artificially heavy. I wonder if it is an alignment issue if it can vary that much from car to car? What model did you drive (4.3/4.7)? Which transmission?
if I had the cash that would be a very nice fun, but still practical and somewhat low key, daily driver.
that's an excellent question that I can't answer used to be AM parts were ridiculously expensive, but I'm not sure if there's been an economy of scale met with the Vantage and DB9...IIRC they've built over 20k of each. blind uneducated guess, more than Porsche, less than Ferrari running costs.
They would be phenomenal deals at $50-60K. I have a good friend who owned one. He traded it in on a Maserati GT conv. I will ask him about the Maintenance costs.
Not all their engines, the One77 @750bhp ain't too bad. Perhaps they feel some loyalty to those buyers and don't want to up the power too much. But is 500+ horsepower really not enough for 95% of buyers who live in the real world? Most will be living in area's that have traffic that moves at a snails pace. Go back 10 years and 500bhp was the peak and everyonwe was amazed with that. I see Astons as cars for people who might buy an SL, but instead want something with a little more attention to detail.
