Recently I came across a F1 that was for sale out of Hong Kong, A white one, the car sold for $8m, then was sold out of Switzerland to to a German buyer ($11M) and the most recent the German buyer is selling the car for now ($14m).

I would have never seen these cars appreciate so much. Anyone care to share some insight to this ?

Only 64 Road Cars made, the greatest modern supercar. That should be enough. No other modern supercar will be as special. Gordon Murray was simply on his game. The F1 one Le Mans overall in 95'.

Still looks great despite it's age.

It is definently the GTO of the future.
Very low production numbers, each car is specced individually, won races (eg:Le Mans overall 1st), was a groundbreaker when it was launched, and it still is today, with its 388 kph top speed

Millions of kids dreamt about it. I didn't, but I can count more childhood friends who wanted the F1 than any Ferrari, I'm not joking.

I'm glad I don't obsess about this car, the ever-climbing Zonda prices is harsh enough reality.

It's an amazing car. I don't think there will ever be another like it.

There was a recent discussion in this forum on the same topic.

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/british/442722-valuation-mclaren-f1-supercar.html

The owner of that particular orange car is a number of things, including a broker who owns Dove House Cars in the UK. Are you certain THAT orange GTR is the one that is being offered around? I've seen more discussion on a different orange GTR of late.

White car you reference should be 053 - have already heard it will be coming to the USA. Was still sitting in the UK last I knew - a week ago. Not sure if it is actually still available. That would be an interesting story and so would earning $3M in profit on an immediate flip.

I imagine you have to take into consideration the significant import duties and taxes that the car accrues as it changes each owner at each country, so never a straight profit figure when comparing sales values.

Peloton25, thank you very much for all of the info shared with me on F1. Yes, that orange car is the one I had a chat with the people at McLaren, and it not for sale.

Spoke with a broker from Denmark with a Phone registered in Spain said he was the owner of the orange car and some other person named Ali. Once I questioned the proof of ownership car is in their hands, I asked for name on paper and was sent back a picture of something else. Didn't bother talking with them again on this, However I sadly keep running into this person online under various alias assumed names multiple times, with the same thing saying they are the owners or saying they are selling on behalf of the royal family of Saudi, and based on my contacts from Abu Dhabi, they are not.

As per the white F1 car It was in Hong Kong sold for (€8m), then sent to Switzerland (11M SFr) Its in Germany now for ($15.5usd)

    Dark Red F1 (San Fran)
I believe there was one in Nor.Cal that was the dark red one that sold at $9m and it was a California titled car.

I have brought this up many times and someone who has the money for something like this is not worried about it. Some locations in the world there are exemptions on something like with regards to import duties and taxes, when owners ship the cars to McLaren for service there is a whole bunch of forms to fill out to avoid this as the car is a temp import.

The issue one needs to be concerned about is in insurance with regards to transportation and logistics. Not many will issue coverage on this. There are a lot of details regarding insurance when transporting via enclosed truck, and reading through all of the fine print is important. Dealing with a car like this expensive there is no room for mistakes. Same goes with air cargo when shipping a car like this.

I don't understand this. Yes there will be a small minority of buyers who will have enough wealth to dismiss the import duties/taxes but to the majority of buyers this is a massive issue that needs to be factored into any purchase.

Transportation and insurance (whilst in transit) would tend to be a lessor issue.

Find a company and let alone only a hand full of enclose transporters who are set up to take on insurance on a car double the value.

Not as easy as the internet says.

No I'm afraid you're wrong, it's very easy. Believe me, if you are operating at this level you are going to be put in touch with with one of the specialist firms that can handle that request in a heartbeat.

Costs including insurance in transit will likely be tiny in comparison to potential taxes payable when importing these cars.

Turbo360 - not certain who you might be, but as an FYI I do know who is posting as TurboTerrificNo9 here and he is certainly in a position to know what he is talking about on this subject and probably many others. :)

Are these high prices for the road cars or the racing versions?

I mean...both are still really expensive. Not like it's just the road cars while the GTRs sit there at the bottom. Shorttails still command more than longtails as they can get converted for road use. See the photo of the four GTRs at the gas station posted in the F1 wreck thread.

Btw, 01R (1995 GTR, overall LeMans winner) is by far the most expensive of the bunch if it were to sell. It will only change hands if the entire company McLaren changes hands. Would be curious to see if the valuation of the company gets down to specific chassis numbers to come up with a total. ;)

I too never lusted after as much as I do a Zonda (or several Ferrari's)...Do appreciate the whole tech behind it though, and they're a fantastic car. Over the last few years I've been appreciating them more and more.

When you have a wife and a child it's the perfect supercar to have though. Or 2 girlfriends. ;)

Since this is the price thread, what do you think 031 will be all in (including 10% buyer's premium)?

    Hammer $12.5M - w/Premium $13.75M

Though the paint color is unique I am not certain it will do as well as a silver car would with similar condition and history.

Just hopeful it finds a good home. It's already got it US paperwork so a chance it could end up here again.

I remember a McLaren F1 with a very odd paint scheme for sale in Japan. It was some sort of brown/grey with pink mixed in. It was pretty wild, and I liked it. I wonder how much it would be worth now. It has to be at the low end of the spectrum just because of the crazy color.
