Some thoughts... What would you guys/gals think of crossbreeding a Jaguar XJS with a Ferrari v12 (550 maranello)? I know an Aston Martin DB7GT is the step up from the XJS, but I think it would be a cool project, and in the end a really fun car. Jim
Why? I submit that for the cost of doing such a thing, you could have one of the nicest Ferrari 550s around and money left over for an XJS (if you really wanted one...)
Seems a waste of two V12 cars. If you want a fast XJS, put in a good Chevy motor. Or buy one with the conversion already done.
+1. Sometimes you just need to bounce ideas around. Doing some research into it, it would be a mess to do. I would rather have an older Vanquish.
I don't think I would go with a 550 motor if it were me. I would look for an XJR motor, either the supercharged I6 or a supercharded v8.
Why not just buy an XJS and tune it properly? Of course if you want a later XJS, then buy that and swap in the Jag V12. My point being, for what you'll spend on purchasing, fabrication and set-up for the Ferrari motor, you could do this with the Jag V12, have a monster and change leftover.
Or you could take the v12 and put it in an MG.. SCCA EMod MGB-GT V12 build : MG Motorsports Forum : MG Experience Forums : The MG Experience
I am sure that project ended with a really, really great weight distribution... There are some engine swaps that work, and work well (Cobra 289, Chevy 350 into street rodded 1930s Fords, etc.) - but this just does not sound like one that has any particular reason or chance for working well.
