Hate to see this. There's not enough of them out there to be crashing yet. Supercar Nation | Silver McLaren P1 Crashes in Dallas, Texas - Supercar Nation |
Looks like he lost control (on a dry road) and spun. Stability control had to be off for that to happen and if so, a very stupid move on the part of the driver.
Yikes! The road is not familiar to me from the few snaps shown. But if it happened today, it's gorgeous and 60 F out here in Dallas. The report says that the car was purchased from Park Place McLaren the day before. Sad to see. Hope the owner is OK and that no one was injured…T
Not sure I would automatically classify turning off the stability control as a "very stupid move", but this is unfortunate. I feel for the guy.
It was carrying some speed on a tollway with slight turn but there was a water on the ground. Driver is ok, passenger has a broken leg.
Even F1 caliber professionals are reluctant to turn it off on public road, in a new (to them) car, especially with that kind of power. If it was turned off it would be the utmost arrogance and stupidity of that driver (even if he is a semi pro). In a controlled environment ( like a track) , by all means, go ahead and turn it off. The worst can happen you end up damaging the car but not other motorists who simply go about their business. Pure luck the accident above did not involve anyone else. So, yes, turning it off on a public road is a stupid move.
Is this a holiday thing (exotic car crashes during spirited street drive)? Seems like every thanksgiving or end of year break there are these types of events - and some of them have been pretty horrific. Hopefully nothing more this weekend or xmas.
the car tub probably went under the armco barrier on the passenger side, seems like it from that photo.
Age 27 What a surpirse. People dont realise that like superbikes you cant just floor some cars. There were a lot of carrera Gt crashes for the same reason. Look for a z06 crash near you.

Wow, that is quite young to be tooling around in a $1MM+ CAR. Hey, just wish I were so fortunate. Hopefully all will work out and no one will have any lasting injuries. Some things can't be fixed, no matter how much money you have...
I think the article's advice of familiarizing yourself with a hyper car like this at the track before hitting the road is a good one. Fortunately, the driver & passenger did not sustain any life threatening injuries T
Interesting thing is there is almost the same exact color sold in DFW, I thought it was this P1 I saw back in October at a charity event until someone pointed out the rear spoiler is a different color. I think three P1 have been sold at Park Place McLaren so far. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can assure you it's significantly more than 3 sold through PP. Amazing, in fact, given the price point. Just shows that demographics are such that 3000 $300K cars is overproduction but 375 $1 million plus cars is a sellout with waiting list.
Which is pretty amazing looking. At first I thought "shifting color is sooo 2002" then I saw this picture and was jealous. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm skeptical. They so often say that "less than 24hrs", and I've never seen it to be true. Just sensationalism. Onno
