Well Cosworth have already developed the V8 for it, so it sounds promising. Let's hope something comes of it.

Grifith was agreat looking car, a more modern etype.
Once they started building their own engines the writing was on the wall.

maybe between Murry and costworth they will build somethign really great.

A Speed 12 prototype existed and was sampled by Peter Wheeler for a while.
Reportedly, the V12 engine broke the dyno during test!
In an interesting interview, the late Wheeler explained why it would never be put in production. Wheeler said that such power (I think 800hp was quoted) was just crazy and unmanageable on the road. He said the car was actually scarry and exhausting to drive in traffic.

Contrary to other supercar manufacturers (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, etc...), Wheeler didn't want his cars to have electronic driver's aid like traction control, ESP or even ABS, because that was TVR's ethos: brutal power and a full driver's experience. It may have been to keep the cost down too!!

Without electronics to tame a powerful engine, it becomes impossible to fully control the car, and it becomes dangerous. Wheeler was of the opinion that most of the electronics seen on supercars in fact reduce the power to keep the vehicle under control.
His conclusion was: "What's the point of building a car with 800hp, if the elecronics let you only unleash half of them most of the time? "

I have noticed that ESP and ABS are now compulsory on cars and will be fitted to the new generation of TVR.

They built three speed twelves. Two of which are road-registered cars.

I knew that one was raced, but not for long, and I assumed it was the prototype.
I didn't know 3 were built. "Only for the brave", I think ...

Wheeler IMO was right with his thoughts on modern supercars, and I really hope the new TVR is built with the same philosophy at the base. There is no need in the world for yet another 200MPH rolling set of computers @ GBP 200.000.

    Best,

    Jack.

I believe their CEO stated a year or two ago that eventually they plan to. If they want to survive, I would assume a North American entry would be worth it.

Would be nice if they returned to the US. Since the late 70s 8 of us have had one of them from the 60s. Mine is a 69 Vixen S2, with a 2.0 liter SOHC swapped for the 1.6 liter pushrod motor.

Fun cars, but I'm now looking to pass mine on as I'm getting a bit old for the idiosyncrasies of TVRs.

I have to say, if they pull this off I'll be seriously impressed. But I think entry into the US and even Europe will be exceedingly difficult due to safety and emission regulations. The U.K. is much more tolerant for small manufacturers.

    Let's hope for the best.
