I can think of so many other cars, or sets of cars, I'd rather buy than this thing. Decent video, though.

I'm considering it for my daily driver, but it is significantly overpriced.

I agree. Beautiful car but overpriced. They're not selling well.

Was there any point in including this behemoth in a Best Driver's Car comparo?

not belonging on a race track doesn't mean it can't be a driver's car.

I like this thing but agree it's $75k too expensive.

    and that sound!!!! :D

I agree regarding the track standard. My thinking is that it's simply too big to meet the standards usually associated with cars labelled as driver's cars. (I don't mean to imply that a large car can't be fun to drive. I just don't think of them as Driver's Cars.)

as a rule I would agree, but this thing is the exception that proves the rule ;)

it's a bit like the SLR in that respect...big and heavy, but loud and crazy enough to be fun.

They did also include the Lexus RC-F which every other review has said is terrible.

And finally explained why it weighs so much. (Apparently, it's a Frankencar, an amalgam of three platforms. This from the same company that gave us the LFA . . . )

I think my knee-jerk reaction against this Conti being in this comparo can be attributed to my The Car tendency.

If I ever end up with one of the performance cars I like it will be The One Performance Car, not one of a string or fleet of performance cars I'll own over a lifetime. So cars that weight as much as the Conti are out, vintage cars from the '60s and '70s I love are out, super focussed cars like the Donkervoorts are out, build quality disasters like the Elise/Exige are out, forced air cars are out, non-manuals are out, Zonda-priced cars are out, cars that are too track focussed are out, etc. (Not much left . . . )

By all accounts the GT3-R deserved to be in this test and, given the competition and its intended purpose/audience, it did very well.

FWIW I don't think the Elise/Exige are build quality disasters, I owned one with no problems (and Flash has had several). some cheap materials, sure, and fit and finish is halfway between production and kit car, but they don't fall apart in your garage like Lotus of old.

    Thanks!

EDIT: I read horror stories on LotusTalk.com about things like speaker and headlight covers popping because of sunlight, windows dropping for no reason, etc. Those are the sort of build quality issues I was referring to. (If they've been addressed/minimized, great!)

our exige has been solid - 2006 with 30k miles and many track days

the elise clams are softer and that headlight thing did happen to them

I still think the evora is an underappreciated car and easily had in a manual

Hard to go wrong with a gt3, though

I've driven contis and think they're awful so cannot imagine how this beast stacks up. Would love to try it out though!

As to lotus, the parking lights popped out of body on drive home from dealer. Covering with clear bra fixed it. Never another issue in daily driving and moderate track use. Overall outstanding build

True. Easy to customize, tough, good aftermarket support, can do the daily thing and be Transformered into something else quickly.

The manual 430 Ber is in the running as well.
