Reminds me of my 997 Targa4s. What a badass concept.

Pretty cool way for macca to extend product line for minimal $.

This lux version will compete directly with ptt now. Comfortable, storage space, glass roof, but still exotic and mid engined. Not a bad trade off vs porsche rear baby seats and if live in warm climate, who needs awd?

    winner!

Mmmmmm... I don't like it. MacLaren has completely removed any visual idea of an engine.

Another comparable to Porsche - a la' Boxster/Cayman. Hasn't seemed to have an impact on those sales.

Maybe shoppers in this segment aren't focusing on engine visibility, rather utility and daily drivability.

Considering no one really works on their own modern cars anymore I can see why they wanted to get rid of that ability. Plus, cars without an engine at all like the Tesla are popular so I don't think looking at an engine is something many would care for. It would've probably been covered in plastic anyway like modern cars now do.

McLaren's engines are set so low in the chassis that all you'd be looking at is the top of an airbox. Nobody needs to see that. Looking at the engine is going the way of the manual transmission, that's what old cars are for. When I walk up to my 911, or cayenne TT, or ford raptor for that matter I don't have any urge to look at the engine. Its a DD after all, not a weekend show car.

I find the 570GT nicer than the 570S.

I like the looks, but it seems rather unpractical having to reach over half the car to get to the glass-door. I'm not sure it's that great in real world situations.

Planned for a while. Maybe not on day 1 of the 570S design, but long before the car was available for sure. There was talk of the GT for a long time.

In the plans from the beginning. They prototyped and tested this car alongside the 570S but built the sportier one first. If you look closely at the spy pictures you can see some of the cars they run in camo were actually the GT version - so they were hiding in plain site all along! But because nobody knew what the GT looked like (McLaren had already said it was in the works) nobody seemed to put 2 and 2 together. They also cleverly covered up the rear window on the 570S so all the camo cars would look very similar.

When they introduced the GT at Geneva the CEO said the next model coming in the Sports Series will be the Spider. He said it was coming next year but didn't say when particularly.

I've played with one. It's not bad at all. You do have to lean over the side of the car (so be careful you don't scratch it with buttons on your jacket or your belt) but you get good access to the hatch area and it's a very smart way to add more storage to a mid-engined sports car.

I think it might be their most popular model - at least until the Spider shows up. McLaren Spiders are very uncompromised, compared to others sports cars, because of the amazing carbon fiber chassis that underpins them. They also have amazing ride quality, great performance and best-in-class steering feel.

Still just dont get appeal of a comfort biased mid engine car. Get an aston or cali, etc for gt purposes. Mid engine is compromised for comfort no matter what

Yeah, but people who want comfort biased cars still want cool cars that are high performance. They needn't be mutually exclusive if they don't have to be. The R8 is a very successful model and it appeals in a similar manner -- more comfortable than a Huracan, but will a very exotic and high-performance car.
