65 should have rubber boot around the shift, not leather. Car is classic color combo.

    That car is perfection!

(Except the leather shift boot, of course.)

I wonder if this was restored by my friend hector castro?

I also wonder what it must be like to pull up in the sexiest car period...wherever you drive it? simply a stunner!!!!

Still no slouch. While I know my 308 would scrub my E-Type in the twisties, in a straight line, it's close.

Considering there is 20 years between the cars, that's amazing.

    Hi,

Classic to some yes, original, no!

BRG was the colour of only eight 4.2L Series 1 cars. Out of ca. 15.000 cars. (OTS, FHC & 2+2)

And the interior looks too dark and saturated to be "Beige" but too light to be "Light Tan" neither of which were standard on a Dark Green car. "Tan" was, but Jaguar "Tan" is brown, like Pigskin or the American football. I do have original Connolly leather samples and Vaumol codes in case anyone is interested.

Almost all cars thought to have been BRG between 1961 and 1967 were in fact (Opalescent) Dark Green. A JHT certificate would tell. But if it says "Dark Green / Tan" that is not what it should look like.

Of course it's still a great car, but I fail to understand why the shifter gaiter and the colours always end up like that, when it is so easy to do it right too, if you care.

    Cheers,

    Pekka T.

Per JCNA - it's by serial number:

    SHIFT BOOT
3.8 - Leather secured with chrome trim and chrome rivets
4.2 - Leather changed to rubber from: 1E10360 (LHD OTS), 1E1061 (RHD OTS), 1E30350 (LHD FHC), 1E20103 (RHD FHC).

My 4.2 is an early car.....I'm sure the transition between 3.8 and 4.2 saw many instances where parts were shared. So the JCNA may state that, but the reality some came with leather, like mine.

    But thanks for posting that....

I know a lot of parts were shared - and one should never be surprised at what they find!

But if you have an early car, then that makes sense - JCNA is stating that earlier 4.2 cars had leather, later models had rubber.

Mine being a '66, makes sense I have a rubber boot. '65 being the first year, and you having an early car, would make sense you have a leather boot.

    4.2 serial number range:

    1E1001 - 1E1863: RHD Open Two Seaters (863)
    1E10001 - 1E15888: LHD Open Two Seaters (5,888)
    1E20001 - 1E21583: RHD Fixed Head Coupes (1,583)
    1E30001 - 1E34249: LHD Fixed Head Coupes (4,249)

I'm assuming you have a LHD OTS or FHC. So first 359 LHD OTS and first 349 LHD FHC had leather boots.

Looks like it should be leather, as car is serial #1E1048. I do get the feeling they want more than it will get. Car looks low in front and high in rear to me. But I'm very particular about the stance of an e-type. I do love the no mirrors. My car did not have mirrors and I grew to really like the clean look.

I didn't notice that, but now that you mention it I totally agree.
