I have seen the round part of the badge on Jaguar C-types. I think it is also used on 120's. Looks like they added wings to it.

    Cheers Jim

    Hi,

Yes, the center of the badge is the piece used on XK120's (that reads "Jaguar Cars Ltd, Coventry") but the rest looks custom as well, perhaps a combiantion of two badges. The winged badges were used on earlier Jagauars (SS, MKIV, MKV) but they are shaped differently to follow the radiator cowl.

I haven't seen that one, I know a few Belgian importer commissioned Ghia and Farina bodied cars (coupés and convertibles) on MKVII chassis, the Jaguat Meteor Coupé for instance, but to me that looks more like a US built custom. Not bad though. :)

Looks like an old photo, did this custom Jag survive?

    Cheers,

    Pekka T.

    I agree.
It is an old photo, probably taken in the mid-1950s. I have no idea what became of this car, I've only just discovered the old photograph recently.

Thank you for this! While I thought the object in the center of the badge was some sort of insignia (potentially a stylized version of the builder's initials), I can see now that it is the Jaguar head used on the XK120 and C Type.

    Wayne,

An aside, but what's the dark car in the background that looks like a GTE without a chrome windshield trim?

    Thank you.

I'm useless on the Jaguar. But does it seem that the original greenhouse (the roof and windows) are all original? I wonder if there are original turn signals in a the B-pillar?

I'm thinking it got some serious front end damage and was partially rebodied. There should be vents behind the front wheels on an original Mk VII that I don't see. So if my theory's right, it was extensive damage. Perhaps the car had been raced or rallied.

    Matt

Behind the Gullwing, Fiat 8V Ghia Supersonic? Is that the one that was in the Detroit area from the mid 50's until sold at auction unrestored a couple of years ago? If not the Fiat 8V there were Supersonic bodied Jaguar XK and Aston Martin.

It's one of the twelve 8V Supersonics, and wearing Michigan plates. Trouble is, there was more than one in that color and in Detroit at the time. I'm sure someone who tracks them could tell which chassis this is based on the plate number.

The more I look at these photos, the more I'm beginning to believe they are mislabeled as "NY" and instead were taken at an event in or around Detroit in 1954.
