77 RW is the oldest and most valuable E-Type in the world...worth $millions.

 

Probably double as of last Saturday? A "Royal wedding" for classic car provenance, it hardly gets better than that (racing victories aside).

 

It seems like the wedding organizers raided the Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Trust,not only for the E Type,but also some Mk V dropheads,and some Mk 7s and 9s. Good publicity stunt. Re Reg No 77 RW....Probably not quite as iconic as 477 RW. The 1955 Le Mans D Type winner,although this plate was a red/white 'trade' plate,so not available for sale.

 

A footnote: In March 1961, 77RW had to be delivered to the Geneva Auto Show for its world premier, so Norman Dewis, the Jaguar test driver, simply hopped into it and drove the 730 miles from Coventry to Switzerland in 11 hours (including the 3-hour ferry crossing). After a quick wash and wax the roadster was rolled onto the exhibition stand where it stunned the world.
