I took delivery yesterday. You may recall that I optioned my car with a 60s GT theme in mind, so I didn’t spec many flashy bits, which kept my cost down.

    -Rosso Mugello / Cuoio
    -Black Carpets
    -Magnaride
    -Carbon Fiber Rear Plate Panel
-20” Diamond Finish Sport Wheel (the car came with Bridgestones installed)
-Cuoio leather covered central tunnel, armrest and windshield arch and A-pillars
    -Full Electric Seats
-Diamond Style Front and Rear Seats
-ExtraCampionario Special Stitching: Mirrored Stitching - Nero Stitching on Cuoio surfaces and Cuoio Stitching on Nero surfaces
    -iPod Connection
    -Cruise Control
    -Front Parking Sensors

I'm really pleased with how the color combination and stitching came out. Unfortunately, the low picture quality doesn't adequately convey the richness of the color and interior.

I am having a clear bra installed on the front quarter of the car. Its been raining heavily in Northern California, so I left the car at the dealer to ship to Premier Mobile Group tomorrow to do the install. I'm hopeful they're done and the weather clears by Christmas so I can drive the new sleigh during the holidays!

My thanks go to everyone who has shared his or her experiences on this forum, which I have found incredibly helpful.

    S.

PS - Tried to pair my iPhone 4 while at the dealer and couldn't get it to work. Sigh.

Beautiful! Drive the heck out of it! See how long you can stick to the owner's manual recommendation for RPM limits for a break in period. Rain will not hurt it a bit!

My iPhone 4 was working but had a habit of switching randomly from car to phone to car, very irritating. I am sure it is in the stupid iPhone software as the iPhone 3 worked great.

    Gorgeous car.

Stop raining? What's that hard top for? Rain: use the up position. ;)

If it is raining really hard that won't help with hydroplaning though. Hope the rain subsides.

    Enjoy.

Congrats....great to see my mugello/cuoio sister car! And, as my 70+ salesman said as I took delivery of mine, "drive it like you stole it". Be safe and enjoy.

I also had problems with my Iphone 4. I therefore put my old Iphone 3 in the car permanently - and it works fine!

Great car. With the iphone 4 when I first used it, no joy. I had to reset my iphone and then do the bluetooth pairing. Since then it's mostly worked fine. From time to time when a call comes in I try answering and nothing happens. When I press phone on the facia unit the message comes up phonebook downloading. When I restart the car no issues.

Thanks for the compliments and well wishes. Still can't wipe the smile off my face when I think about the car. :)

I intend to spend some quality time with the manual once I get the car into my garage. I have a feeling I'll spend a few hours configuring the cockpit and programming all the settings. I'm hopeful I can figure out the phone.

My sales guy told me that its not advisable to strictly follow the break-in described in the manual (<5K RPM first 600 miles; <4K RPM until engine warmed up to 150F). Instead, he recommended periodically allowing the engine to rev higher after the engine had reached 150F operating temperature, so that the valves properly seat. Were you guys given similar advice?

On the Porsche chat boards, there is debate as to whether the 997 break-in described in the manual is really a function of Porsche's lawyers seeking to minimize liability for new owner accidents by directing them to restrain performance until they are accustomed to the handling dynamics of the rear engine layout. Some people ascribe excessive oil consumption of the direct fuel injection engines to improper valve seating due to improper break-in.

My California saw 7 grand within 50 miles. I just had to pass this slow dude driving the Ferrari from the dealer in central Ohio to my home in northwest Ohio. I have never really been easy on the car. 17,600+ miles on it since Dec 5, 2009 and it uses zero oil, no leaks, no smoke, it just runs. I spent 2.5 total hours on the Mid-Ohio race course as well a month or so ago, and most of that time was between 6,500 and 8,000 RPM, not using any oil but destroying a set of tires:D:D. I also went on a fall drive this year with the local Ferrari club and one of the guys following me commented that I seem to "launch" it at almost every stop sign. The car is so much fun, why not? (Not using PS button, just getting on it) And I have used PS probably ten times.

So, should you take it easy? The Porsche folks probably are right, take your time getting used to the power and responsiveness of the California, working your way up. After a week of bad weather driving it easy, I have to be careful getting on it again. The owner's manual reading is a good thing. I had mine three or four months before I realized that the automatic dimming mirror thing was not turned on and there is a button on the inside mirror.

And be prepared to have a ton of people walk up to you wanting a photo of the car at every gas station, or post office, or bank, etc. All part of the fun and the 'experience'.

Where did I get the idea that every Fcar was tested on the track by a professional test driver before the car was sent to the owner? Was it Ultimate Factories? Certainly they get the revs up.

144 mph on Mid-Ohio race track ... 142 elsewhere once, 141 elsewhere once (passenger was quite pretty!) ... not afraid of the S. H. lawyers here ... I don't think you can get a ticket for what you say you have done ... only for what they catch you doing. Elsewhere could be Canada ... or another track, or KPH not MPH or trying to impress someone. Anyway, not worried about that.

Exactly, mine had 87 miles on it when I got it. Balsamina, how many miles on yours when you pick it up?

Thanks again everyone for the kind remarks. Mine had 36 miles. I recall seeing the Ultimate Factories episode when they said the cars were test driven at speed prior to delivery. My sales guy also indicated the engines were bench tested. I have informed my wife that we need to start our planning to our factory visit to diligence the matter. :) In the meantime, I take comfort from your real-world experience, Rick!

    Hello,

Very nice Ferrari. A few questions if you don't mind. I noticed from your post history that you placed your order in August. Did your car arrive when promised? At the time of placing your order, did your dealership indicate what your wait time was compared to other Ferrari models such as the 612 or 599?

Enjoy in good health and hope to see more pictures (specifically the rear carbon-fibre) soon.

Thanks Joe. I was told "November delivery" (not specific date or week) so it was a couple weeks later than I originally expected, although I could have selected the expedited air shipment for November delivery. I happened to have lucky timing, as the dealer had an unsold allocation that was a week away from being frozen as a Rossa Corsa/Beige spec. The other dealer near me didn't have an allocation available until Mar 2011.

I didn't ask about wait time compared to 612s & 599s. Had I been interested in one, I would have gotten a used one as they seem to be cheaper and plentiful around me. I was told wait time for 458s was 12-18 months, although I would get bumped up the queue if I took a car now from the dealer.

Thanks Canny. Sorry I don't know the clearance and don't have the manual handy. Its meant to be usable as a daily driver and I thought curbs weren't difficult during my test drives. Perhaps one of the veteran owners can comment. To my knowledge, there isn't a nose lift system like available for the 458.

The color is Rossa Mugello, which I believe is 1 shade darker than the Corsa. Check out the official California pictures thread - not4one also has a Mugello/Cuoio, which he photo'd outdoors and really shows the different shades depending on the lighting. His pics were part of the inspiration for my selecting this combination. :)
