It took one year, but was finally pulled over for slightly exceeding the posted speed limits. Would anyone like to share their experience with detectors?

If you like to speed (like most of us, I presume :D), it's a must. But hardwire it. With no mirror harness, and the roof console being almost impossible to remove without breaking it (I tried), the best way is with a hardwire kit AND an 'add-a-fuse' that costs $10 to avoid having to splice your factory wiring (so it's 100% reversible). Make sure to tell you shop the latter, if you use that route. Below is the job I did. Good luck.

I'm sorry but your solution is not very professional.
I think there are better less obvious installations out there integrating things so one doesnt see the actual unit suctioned cupped to the window.
Sorry. No offense to you as I am sure you must feel very proud of your handiwork. I am not any better than you in this work either, so try not o take this personally-- but you probably will anyway.

Unfortunately, due to the financial straits of most states, the police are encouraged to give out tickets in order to generate revenue.

Things are only going to get worse. In California our state debt has doubled in 6 months compared to what the politicians predicted at the beginning of the year.

The most expedient political approach is to use the Robin Hood example of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, only now it's the 99% vs the 1%. The brilliant aspect of re-telling this story is that the average American doesn't even bother to consider that grouping everyone else into the 99% is absurd--there is the upper middle class and middle class and working class and blue collar working class and the poor and a lot of other economic strata lumped together in there.

Remember that Robin Hood only gave a little back to the poor hoping to gain their favor so they would not turn him to the authorities. In today's story Robin hood and the sheriff of nottingham and the king are all on the same side

Sorry for getting off the point

I WANT MY FREE S#IT and I want it NOW:D

I have an Escort 9500ix and just got the iPhone app to go with it. The GPS ability to lock out business's door openers is very cool. Speed and red light camera notices are great too. I simply suction cup it to the bottom of the windshield in the center and plug power into the useless cigarette lighter socket, and the iPhone into the USB outlet for anything other than a very short trip.

    Also have an Escort 9500.

Does work well for radar, but if they have laser, it's probably too late by the time it goes off. Just recently got popped by laser. The alarm went off and I could maybe decrease speed by 5 mph. Next thing was seeing the cop's lights behind me ;)

    Thinking of getting the K40.

Take it personal? Come on man. We're all matured adults. It takes A LOT more to insult me than that, so don't worry :D.

The job is 'professional', because I didn't touch the car. Most shops use clips to pierce a wire's insulation, and although not a big deal to most, THAT is not professional IMO. I think what you meant was 'integrated', or 'invisible', which could look 'professional' to you, but unless you check the entire installation (especially what you cannot see), you wouldn't know that :D.

Anyway, I think you missed my goal: NOT MESS WITH THE CAR. Unfortunately, 'BlendMount' doesn't make a Ferrari bracket to hold a detector from the mirror because it's impossible to make one (Corvette one attached), so what I posted was the best solution FOR ME :). There're other solutions, like integrating the V1 display into the mirror, or remote installations, but besides having to mess with the car, they're basically permanent. If you have better ways, by all means, post them so owners have other options to look at. Take care.

I have a built in radar and laser detector by escort. Its their top of the line project. It works awesome and it is clean. If you would like to see the install pictures go to rh motor cars website and look up escort installs and you will see pictures for my install.

Its expensive but I would recommend it.

PM if you want more details.

I have K40 radar and laser in both my California and my new Panamera GTS. I love them! Work really, really well. I love the remote control, the ability to GPS mark spots. The GPS is really cool, because it not only marks the GPS location but also the particular signature of radar or laser so it won't miss another alert in same spot.

Speaking of professional installs, I have to have the K40 checked on my GTS. I think they spliced into a wire somewhere they shouldn't have or one is loose. I am getting a whining sound through my Burmester.

How does the K40 compare with the Valentine 1? Also anyone here from Australia with recommendations on what's available in the local market that works well against radar and laser?

I wish I could say I delayed this post so that I would have some time to test the install, but I've just been procrastinating.
Nevertheless, I'll add some real live experiences at the end.

So I wanted a top of the line radar detection system, after being scared by some guys at Coffee and Cars in West Palm Beach (thanks guys)
But, to be fair, on rare occasions I like to drive fast too. I figured a few prevented tickets would cover the cost of a system

    I had a few criteria:
    • The best system, period
    • Custom and fully concealed install
    • A highly experienced and detail oriented installer.

So, I did a lot of research online and found the BEL (Beltronics) STiR Plus to be the best.
Yes, others like the Escort Passport 9500ci or the regular 9500 are good too. Just not as good.
I did add the laser jammers so that I'd be protected from the laser guns.
Do your own research if you like, but a good review is this: http://www.radartest.com/BEL-STi-R-Plus-review.asp
Google the system: Beltronics STiR Plus and Laser Shifters

The job was done by Technicar, in West Palm Beach. I am fortunate to have these top guys 15 minutes from my home.
I visited their shop and spoke with them for hours before deciding they are the best guys to do this installation.
    This is them: http://www.technicar.com/

    So, the install consists of:
    • Bel ST-R plus with laser jammers
    • 2 laser jammers in the front, 1 on the top of the rear license plate
    • radar detector in the front
    • Central unit built in
    • Display built into mirror (they etched out a small rectangle)
    • Small control unit in the tunnel, just below the armrest
    • Speaker built in
    See the pictures

    It has worked very well:
    • very little false alarms, because the GPS records the locations and turns the alarm off after a few false ones
    • Clear voice and sounds
    • Obviously a very concealed install

Laser jammers: I'm on PGA Blvd, going west, Detector goes off, "Front Laser jammers firing" message, beeping, I slow down even more (was not speeding), and 2 seconds later: a cop in the median, laser gun drawn and firing.
he sees me, I see him. he knows I jammed him, I know that he knows that I know.
    Worked perfectly.

If needed, the system could still be removed if the next owner wanted that. But I'm keeping it, already put 6000 miles on it in 8 months.

Expensive: cost close to $3000 for the system and the 5 day installation.

Let me know if you have any questions, it's a great system.

As the installer is in Florida, I think it should be posted in the Florida thread so that you can get an impression of their work. Also, as it is a custom install in a California, I posted it in that model specific thread also.

Totally agree with the Robin Hood point, but I digress lol

I think the job was VERY professional. I have the exact same set up on my F430. It's much more cleaner than having a wire hang down over the dash.

The install in the Cali is amazing. The attention to detail to ensure everything is hidden is great.

The install in the F430 is great too.

Hmmm, depends on how fast you are going. Include insurance premiums and it could be break even in 4-6 tickets.

Is a laser jammer really going to prevent you from getting a ticket? If I was a cop and pointed my gun at a hot car and saw the thing go haywire I'd know instantly the guy had some kind of jamming device. I'd then pull the guy over regardless and ticket him based on observation or whatever else they use to justify a ticket. IMO a good detector will make you aware of any cops around using Ka band and if you're not in the lead will at least possibly notify you of someone else getting hit with laser. Not so sure you're that much further ahead spending the big bucks?

I had the laser jammer version in my S550 going down the Ohio Turnpike. It went off telling me it was shifting a laser. I saw the Ohio Highway Patrol in the center about 600 feet away. I was in the right of three lanes doing about 78 (speed limit is 70) and directly along side me was another guy obviously doing about 85 and the OHP did nothing. I am sure that the other guy was lased and the jammer in my car blocked his reflection. It was WAY cool.

I have not wanted to install the remote with laser jammer version in my California only because I didn't want to be without the car that long.

Umm, it's going to be pretty easy to fight a ticket without proof that you were speeding. Observation is not going to cut it.

Oh they can absolutely 'estimate' your speed. Cops can pretty much do whatever they want.

The jammers are great and work well. Just consider point 1 above.
