Personally, I do not think they will reuse the California name, but the new model will obviously use a modified Type F149 chassis, hence F149M as a code name. The California 30 chassis was essentially unchanged from the original except for spring, anti-roll bar and ECU changes, like the 599 HGTE, which also used an unchanged chassis.

But I could be wrong, because the 550 and 575M both used the Maranello name.

I think one of my previous posts was misunderstood, in great part due to how I worded it.

I meant the car will have an updated chassis, not a built from scratch new, but a chassis which is more developed than the mostly electronic changes from GTB to HGTE and Cali to 30.

The 30 is the MLU for the Cali, hence the 149M is in my books a "new car".

So it is a bigger change than I was thinking. I thought more design change with a new engine. Looking very interesting now for sure. Curious if they did anything with the brake lights or if they remain low with the upper lights only serving as running lights. I can't see how to solve that and still have an opening large enough for the top...

I'm more than sure that they'll follow 360/430 evolutionary development pattern here.

If they do follow this route - as was indicated by isuk - this will mean keeping the same greenhouse and, more importantly, the same doors. If the same doors are used, major design changes will be limited to front and rear clips.

I'm now thinking the "F380" re displacement...What will we do when they unveil it? what new thread will take the place of this one? We could do an office pool on the name; the winner gets to drive one on the track in Maranello...

Totally convinced they will.

Or just still called California?

I see no reason to change the name. Adding a designation like "M" or "II" or "S" (I know they won't use that over used one!) isn't a big deal to me one way or the other...but I would be surprised if they drop California already.

I vote the California 100. It has a nice allusion to the Baja 500 without being too obvious.

There's a preview of the new California for existing owners in Italy next month (I assume in Maranello). My local Ferrari dealer sent me an invitation yesterday and said he'd take care of everything except the flight... I'm not going - it seems way too extravagant for me. But for those in Europe or nearby, it could be a good opportunity?

Yes, I think all that is known has been filtered and distilled until there is really nothing left to talk about until the announcement - or at least the preview. We are all anxious to see the new design and hear how the powertrain is going to be. It is kinda like waiting in a long line together. A flurry of conversation about something followed by a long period of silence. This is a fun forum!

Engine type will change, too, from the Type F139B. If radically changed with a turbo, likely an entirely new engine number.

F149M may just be shorthand for the California replacement, too, like this chart from a Fiat/Ferrari/Maserati briefing, where the 30 was identified as a California M, but not a Type F149M chassis.
Terry, don't even suggest that it might NOT be a turbo or someone will jump in your case like happened to me here some time ago.

Rick- I used to fly around in fighters with people shooting at me, so I doubt that would bother me very much.

SP FFX

The SP FFX, thought to be a nex gen cali, is actually the one produced through the Special Product program based on a FF. The one ordered by Japanese and this seems to be a track day special FF.

Interesting! Where did you come by that picture?

Check out the dedicated SP FXX thread here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/288...-sp-ffx-2.html

I think there will be some similarities to the new CA from this photo. The air bridge cut outs for example and a bit of the LaFerrari front.
