I am inclined to agree with you, from what I hear the car is going to be hardly slower in the straight line than a 458 and possibly quicker in areas which are at high altitude.

Will it be built on the F12 platform which is already shared with the FF?

The query was about the platform though.

Yes the first version California started life as a Maserati platform. The new version will also be based on a Maserati then to? The new Maserati only has a V-6 from what I have seen. Kinda interesting what Maserati might develop for themselves if Ferrari sticks a V-8 in their platform...

The California has a Type F149 chassis, so logically the F149 M is.....

What everybody already said. Other announcements for the California replacement showing say new Gran Turismo.

lets hope they make it into something pretty this time. I can't believe how much of a design trainwreck the current model is.

I think the current car has aged very well.

I'm not happy about my apathy, but I can't help but feel underwhelmed at the idea of a "new" California, Modificato or not.

It is probably not a car you should purchase, then. I don't understand your point?

Well, I guess different strokes... I think the current model is quite beautiful - and I get compliments from people every day. Not sure where the train wreck happened...

Generation 2 is usually a positive step, so fingers crossed. There's nothing wrong with the California. It appeals to a different market segment than the other models and it brings new owners into the marque. The fact that it is the cheapest and probably most useable model in the line up is all good. It is not meant to be a 'cheap' 458 a-like or a copy of any other model. It has to be different and a bit more mainstream.

Could be interesting, although I'm not super excited as I was for the F12 or La Ferrari.

I just changed a few months ago from a California to a 458 spider but I am still very excited to see what they will do with the new one!
If you have young kids and love convertibles I believe the California is an amazing car :)

Even if you are not interested in a new California, it will be of great interest to see:
    1. How well the turbo configuration is handled with respect to sound and throttle response.
    2. How good a job central styling does, given their two previous efforts on the 458S and LaFerrari.

A design that has litterly nothing going for it, is a train wreck in my book. You got this faceless, generic front, a profile with lines and creases going everywhere without really having a clue, centered by a stupid, useless airhole and a rear that is way too huge for the rest of the car. Everytime I see one, I am genuinely offended that Ferrari would attach her name and brandlogo to it.

    But indeed, different strokes....

You know, I have to find your comments quite baffling, because in your current FChat bio, you actually state:
    "Personal Ferraris
    ……N/A

    Wanted Cars
    ……Any Ferrari imaginable

    Other Cars Owned
    ……Citroen Xsara Coupe

    Previous Cars Owned
    ……Fiat Punto
    ……Ford Fiesta"

FWIW, your current car, probably looks like this late model Xsara coupe… So what is your agenda, really?
