No, not really. Many sites use the word "base" where the model selector would be in the listing configuration.

If it was something like a honda accord, you would see DX, LX, EX.

Ferrari doesn't have that, so "base" comes up.

Although some refer to a "base" car as one with the non-sport wheels, no shields, regular seats, no carbon...

But its not really a "base" car in that sense.

Actually, there are different base configurations for the California, and for any new car for that matter. It depends on where and when the car was sold.

From my experience, every country has is own preferred base configuration because of different socioeconomic, climate, competing cars and popular preferences. So each market can offer a different base model.

When you buy a new Ferrari, your salesman will present you with an OPTIONS list for that model and model year. If an options list exists then it means a "base configuration" also exists. The caveat is that what may have been an option for one model year, in a particular country, may well be part of the "base model" in another country and/or on a different model-year.

The head office managing sales for a particular country will fiddle with what it wants to include or exclude as "basic equipment" based on advice from their marketing people on what they feel is necessary to meet upcoming sales targets.

Base California means it's not a Cali 30.
