Hey gang, need your help. Due to sloppy hardware installation, heavy mountain bike fell on the poor Cali, and pedal hit the flat area behind the passenger door, just below the quarter window (pics attached). Seems to me this panel is fiberglass, rather than metal, but want your input. I say that because it looks like get coat... unless the car was repaired before and dealer never told me, but doubt it. Just snapped the pics with an iPhone5 for now; hope that's enough for you to recommend how to proceed. I wish it could be just touched-up, but might be wishful thinking. The more challenging task will be to find a suitable local shop that can fix it properly. The reason I MUCH prefer a touch-up (even if not absolutely perfect), is to avoid taking a hit due to suspected crash damage, when it's just a silver-dollar size paint repair. Thank you for your help. Am bummed right now :(.

Sounds like you are the correct path. A good shop, but find a great shop. they can get the Ferrari pain and make it look like new

This panel is aluminum. Should be easy to repair. Any dents can be smoothed out by a dent specialist-- access via the window. Next and then repainted.

Thank you for your help. Yeah, I was thinking it had to be aluminum, not fiberglass, or FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic). But the darn paint is super thick, and panel sounds like fiberglass, so thought it was gelcoat. There was a lot of white powder around that area, hence my comment. Probably primer, since under rock chips it looked white too. Hope that's the way it is from the factory, and not a previous paint job. That'd be adding insult to injury :). Silicon Valley dealer said car was pristine. Will need to check it carefully when I move the car away from the garage wall.

The good news is panel is not dented. I can only see a super minor indentation (where the edge of the bicycle pedal hit, I guess). The bad news is nobody local fixes aluminum, but I don't think I need an aluminum shop if there's no need to do anything to the panel, no? Or is the paint process different over aluminum than metal? The closest shop to me would be Albuquerque (Maurer's Collision), but it's 4+ hours away. And will soon trade the car for a 458 Spider. I was thinking of hiring one of those shops that fix cars for dealers (touch-up masters, etc) to just touch-up the area, even if not perfect. That way dealer (and potential future buyer) can see there wasn't wreck damage. Also don't want to put close to a thousand more miles on the car (2010 car with 5,500+ miles now), the risk of highway damage, and possible fallout from any bodyshop job (as good as they might be) if I drive it there. Plus dealer might deduct for the paint job anyway, right? Might as well just do a touch-up so it doesn't look like crap, and just get a deduction from it only (not paying a body shop to paint the entire panel), no? Never been faced with this, so all comments welcome. Including what would you do if it was your car. Thanks again.

    Is the panel dented?

If it wasn't dented then no dent to fix.

If there is a dent, then a dent removal specialist can probably push it out and make it invisible to your eye. I had a dent in the aluminum panel of my 360 twice. The dent guy did a great job fixing them,

Anyway your damage is really very minor.

Go to a good paint shop and they will coordinate everything.

It only seems to have an ultra-minor dent in the raw aluminum, so any touch-up job would cover it. The pedal chipped the paint down to the bare aluminum in some areas. But it's only paint damage. Will recheck it carefully, but couldn't see any dented areas around it. If I had a good shop that works on exotics I'd get it fixed locally, but it's just not worth embarking on a trip that could cause more damage just for that. Or having to pay 2 grand to ship the car instead. Last time I drove on the highway I was thrown a freaking crate on my travel car, but miraculously nothing happened. If it had been the Cali or the GTR, both would had sustained extensive damage in the front due to low lips.

Will search for one of those touch-up places I menitoned, and see what they say. Will keep you posted. Thank you for all your comments. Greatly appreciated.
