just got pricing from nav tv (navtv.com)
it is possible to add a front camera to a cali.
the cost is around $1,700 for parts.
the install requires removal of the dash for access to the radio.
my local dealer is hesitant to do the job for fear it will invalidate the warranty on radio.
while a wiring harness adapter is used, the radio is not opened or altered in any way.

definitely going to add a front camera.
i am trying to find a qualified installer in the detroit area.
the biggest problem is taking apart the dash to get to the radio wiring harness.

    i tried.
the service manager is concerned that ferrari would reject a potential warranty claim should a problem occur with the radio.
and a new radio would cost over $30K!!!
this is difficult for me to accept, as the install does not involve opening up the radio; a simple adapter is introduced into the wiring harness.
the service manager is contacting ferrari to see if they offer a factory sanctioned add-on front camera kit.

i just had nav tv install front and rear cameras on my 911.
that install DID involve opening up the radio.
a custom video board was inserted into the radio to accept the camera video feeds.
    works like a charm.

When I had my 2011 California I came across this website, Jeep Grand Cherokee WK - MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment System radios . It covers details and modifications available for the MyGIG radio-head. While this website deals with Jeep and Chrysler, this is the same radio-head that Fiat (Chrysler) uses in the California. Select the MyGIG Lockpick II Interface link, Jeep Grand Cherokee WK - MyGIG Lockpick , that covers available modifications using the Lockpick II to the MyGIG radio-head. It appears that everything "plugs-in" and the integrity of the radio-head is not breached. With that being said, perhaps the Ferrari dealer's service manager would be more inclined to tackle the project since I understand that the radio-head would need to be removed, just not disassembled.

If it looks of interest, you would be best served to contact them for the specifics of compatibility.

    Good luck.

i spoke with my dealer again today.
they are willing to install the front camera if the supplier indemnifies the radio from camera-induced damage.
we also discussed the high cost of the ferrari radio compared to the jeep radio.
while the hardware is the same, the ferrari firmware is proprietary.
that is why the ferrari radio costs 10x more!!!!

my dealer charges an hourly rate for labor.
i believe the hardware cost is approximately $1,800.
i expect the total cost, including labor, will be under $2,500.
the install will be done in early spring, as the vehicle is tucked away in my garage for the winter.
