I just picked up my Cali T today. Dealer told me they just yesterday updated the engine software with a new update from Ferrari to make the engine sound slightly louder after many complaints it was too soft. It seems slightly louder than the demo I drove a month ago. Anyone else hear about this?
I am going to check with the dealer When did the update come in ? I wonder if my car has it, or do i need to go back for the flash? I got my car on ThanksGiving.
i test drove the cali-t one week after its arrival at my dealership in the detroit area. the exhaust is noticeably quieter than that of the 2014 cali. i assume the software upgrade on the cali-t will simply open the baffles at a lower rpm. even with the baffles open, i think the note is a bit too muffled for my taste.
Call me a wimp, but my old Cali was trying way too hard to be something that it wasn't. Like George Clooney trying to be Clint Eastwood. The 458, not so much. I thought the new Cali sounded about perfect on the test drive for what it is. Mine's due in about 10 days and will try to avoid the update!
Picked it up yesterday and had an exhaust bypass switch installed. The T is noticeably louder than the Cali. Having both in my garage now I find the Cali-T valve open almost shakes the whole car where as the Cali with the valve open just gives a loud droning sound.
Can you turn the valve on and off with a switch ? With the bypass is this something you like better than the older Cali? Which brand of bypass did you use ? You are one of the first that can compare the cars, what do you think and feel about the T ?
Can you please share specifics regarding the add on, where you ordered, who installed? Much appreciated!
The dealer installed it. the second exhaust flaps only open at 3,500 but with the switch they are always open. Not an expensive upgrade
i agree with this concept. we will need to use a db sound meter to objectively tell which is louder. it is a free app on ios.
Now, what is very important is not only the loudness but the quality. I.e a Porsche drone with Tubi, to me is not a great sound. A Ferrari or Maserati throaty is a great sound. We will need Marv to be objective, not just which is louder but which is a "better" sound. IMHO
After my car arrives next month and gets thru the break-in period it may never see revs below 3,500... Sounds like an enticing option, actually...
Yes, typical first 500 miles to let everything settle in, no hard braking with the disc brakes, not a lot of engine braking on downshifts, keep revs under 5,000 rpm, no Launch Control, no really short trips. Just to get things of to a proper start.
I fully plan on adhering to breakin procedures, but we all know these cars get tested before being shipped. I'm sure they drive them semi-hard during that exercise. Don't they test them on the road and track?
