A bit of a pleasant surprise...car apparently landed at the dealer this afternoon, so I need to decide on the add-ons, specifically radar detec. Last time I got the built-in Escort....very effective, great at navigating out false alarms. But, tiny controls (pretty much unreadable) and a lot of unnecessary loud noise/beeps at start up...otherwise happy with it. Dealer offers option of K40 (about $500 less than Escort) or Valentine (about $500 more). Inclined to stick with Escort given I know what I'm buying...any other opinions/experience appreciated before I pull the trigger tomorrow.

As you can tell we are all a little excessive. I have purchased the 9500CI, it is the 4th or 5th i have had over the years on my cars. I have done side by side comparisons with the little escort against the K40, This unit picks up signal about 1 mile earlier. I have had K40 in my first Maserati as the dealer reccomended it over the Escort, with reluctance i had aquiessed. I had them replace it within a week. Which they did.

Since it is for an F-car go for Stinger, nothing beats it, will even detect laser before you are tagged.

The Escort is very good, but the V1 with its direction indicator is more valuable for me.

Escort, very simple, V constantly goes off at every grocery store. Escort forgets those door openers. Escort you could use Escort Live which I use while on the road, gives warnings a couple miles ahead.

I use a V and love it. I'd rather see everything than have the fear that the machine is filtering out a legit signal.

Anyway, I find it interesting to see what sets the thing off.

Correction, it will detect a laser as you are tagged.:)
I have been using Waze lately and it is great in areas with lots of users.

No, that is where you are wrong.
Any other detector on the market your comment is correct.
Because all those sub $1.000 products use cheap components.
This means the detector needs a direct hit, which incidentally means the nice police officer have your speed at the same time.
Now the Stinger uses a military grade spectrum analyzer and a sensor system from fighter jets. It is so sensitive it will detect laser residue in the air, from cars in front of you when they are hit by the policeman.
On the radar side, it will detect the radar signals from automatic opening and closing of doors to a shop, down a side street around the corner.
But in order to avoid false positives, they use the full spectrum analyzer to filter false positives.
The design on the Stinger VIP looks like a small iPhone, with everything being touch.
Only downside is the price, €3.000 (I guess around $4.000) but this being Fcar club, price doesn't matter.
If interested I can take a picture of mine in my 430 Scuderia.

Look at their website, they even have a very cool feature called laser shield:

Interesting product, not crazy about the big display hanging on the dash...but maybe they have a more discrete option. Wish we had more people that had tried both. By the way, the Escort and V1 are $3k+ installed with all the sensors. K40 a little less.

I have a Passport MAX (not sure it is the II version) and also have a 9500IX. Both work with Escort Live but you need the Live charger for that.
