What causes the stickiness isn't really clear. What is clear is that Ferrari has been using the same rubberized coating for years. It's found on 360s, 430s, and now on the California (maybe on the 458s, too, but I don't know). It looks good initially, as it gives the parts a soft feel and matte finish. But it looks like the stickiness problem eventually afflicts all cars that have that material, even the most modern ones like the California, as there seem to have been no improvements to the coating to make it last. I would guess this is yet another failure of Ferrari to remedy the problem because of lack of warranty liability exposure (cars not driven enough within the warranty period to be exposed to the conditions that cause this).

As you can see from the pics, Robbie can remedy the problem (looks really good; I would have preferred that they were finished that way from the factory rather than have the stickiness problem), but it's still a pain because you have to remove the parts (or have them removed) and re-install them.

Are cars in hot climates more prone to this problem?

There are many threads in the sections on older cars (360s, 550s, etc.) that seem to suggest it's a combination of heat, UV exposure and exposure to various other environmental factors such as lotions, solvents and cleaning materials. This effect can take 3-4 years or longer to develop, and the range of time is quite broad.

And you did remove the coating completely?
What does this cost for the parts shown above?
