You’ve had your heart set on a Ferrari and when the time comes, you purchase a gently used 2010 Ferrari California. When the owner took delivery of his “new” Ferrari, what’s one of the first things he did besides take it for a nice joy ride? He brought it to XPEL San Antonio for XPEL ULTIMATE self-healing paint protection film to be installed. Over the past few days we wrapped the full hood, full fenders, front bumper, headlights, mirrors and rocker panels

XPEL ULTIMATE has a 10-year warranty that covers, yellowing, staining, cracking, blistering and delaminating. It is also self-healing against swirl marks, fine scratches and more.

    XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection Film:
We used pre-cut kits for this entire vehicle, and with our pre-cut kits you have the option to wrap the edges, so there are no seams where possible. That means the film will wrap of the hood, fenders, etc. The kit is available below:

    That looks impressive.

Were there visible edges and seams on the car when all was said and done and, if so, where are they located?

I had my 2013 California fully wrapped with XPel last summer (by an authorized installer who used the kit pieces) and there are seams and edges all over the place. I spent a bundle and was not terribly impressed with the end result. You can't see the edges and seams from a couple of feet away but for the price I paid (which was substantially more than the original phone quote) I was not thrilled.

My guess is that it is the installer not the wrap. I have seen too many people really happy with their shrink wrap, Xpel and Suntek. The cost of an amateur vs a pro installer is about the same (not cheap), but the outcomes vary significantly. Am guessing anyone can get in the business, I just would not want to be an owner of one of their first 50 jobs.

I'm going to have my 2010 Cali front bumper, spoiler and the head lights wrapped in three week's time. The work is going to be done by a detail shop I trust the wrapping is going to be done after the complete exterior paint correction and detailing.

I've heard excellent opinions about this detail specialist and learned that they've detailed some of the most expensive sport cars in europe but, before I could trust them with my Cali I ask to see some of their work. They show me one Pagani, Ferraris F12, Lamborginis and several Porches and I was really impressed with the quality of the wrapping. Because some of this cars are kept by the owners in a garage at their detail headquarters, I had time to look at the wrapped areas using my magnifying reading glasses and the truth is I couldn't tell they've been wrapped. Not the slightest seam or wrinkle, in one of the F12 I could only tell it had been wrapped because there was a tiny chip on the spoiler caused by a small stone impact. In one case the defect on the wrapping that was pointed by the detailer was completely non perceptible to me.They only use XPEL Ultimate wrapping but to be honest I think the secret of a good wrapping lies on the wrapper's experience and degree of perfectionism.

Once I have pictures of the work made I'll post them

It most certainly is the installer not the film itself ... the shop I used is a very well known and highly respected detail shop. I'll post some photos of the results.

I would love to hear from other California owners who've had their car wrapped and whether they can see the edges of the film in various spots, and whether there are other seams on the car.

Sorry that this happened to your car/installation...did you take it back to them for a second look or to have them fix any of the issues?

There are going to visible edges and seams somewhere on every installation. On this one, there is a precut cutout around the ferrari emblem's (fenders and front end).

Even though the hood is wrapped around the edges, at the edge of the corners there is a cut out that is needed in order to wrap the edges. I don't have an example from this California T, but this is on a brand new Porsche 911 Carrera S hood.
