Boot open message

I recently purchased a 2010 California with 5,500 miles on it. This is my first Ferrari and I love the car. We took it out for a spin yesterday and the message boot open displayed on the TFT.
Once I figured out boot meant trunk I started inspecting things. The trunk is closed. It opens and closes just fine with the button next to the driver's seat, the FOB, or even with the key that many say is so hard. I can hear it latch shut. So.. does anyone know why I could be getting this error. As you know I am unable to operate the top due to this error. Thanks in advance for any advice. So far I tried opening the trunk, manually closing the latch and then opening it with the emergency cord. No luck.
