I always knew that the language issue would snuff this project.

I can just imagine the clerk saying: Non tu ne peux par mettre le mot "Ferrari". Cependant "Férrari'' est acceptable.

So I can for sure forget my ''YELO TR'' or ''GIALLO''

If they want to show a good image they should replace the Ministre de la santé. He really looks healty.

Allowed to make a right on a red light AND have a custom plate? Whoa. That's going a bit too far.

But don't do a right on a light if you're in Montréal or you're in trouble. Only OFF the island.

Hi...Fascinating thread. My French is spotty @ best, but from what I could make out from the linked article - is the issue that some personalized plates may be OK in English, but offensive in French and/or vice versa? Thanks...T

We have a provincial agency that looks after people who advertise in english when french is supposed to be prominent...so the Minister of Transportation is asking for legal advice because he fears that a lot of people will use a lot of foreign language (read english) on their plate making them violators of the law against foreign language advertising...

So, it sounds like the use of English words on the plates is the worry?

They don't seem to be too worried about issuing plates currently that have potentially offensive (to some to some English-speaking citizens) combination of letters such as WTF, FAT, FCK...

no problem for loosing 11 millions with those plates
no problem borrowing 3. 5 billions to balance the budget
no problem spending 3 or 400 millions to register hunting guns

    very well done
    vive la differance......

It would be P&R is there were two sides to this issue. However, it seems that everyone is on the same page.

We all agree that not having vanity plates because some zealots are worried that it will violate the language policy is just stupide.

    Oh well, c'est la vie...ostie!!!!! :D

    Ok then..I'll play.

I think it would be wrong...reeeallyyyy wrong to have guys like all of you (and me) have stupid words like FORZA, YELO TR, RED308 on their Ferrari. Man, it could block traffic and you know it's already slow...Elders trying to read would rear-end your prized possession...
See! The government wants to protect you! Geezzz! Can't you get that! Try to understand for once!
Good! Now, what do have to say! ;)
