This would've been my pick if you had set the limit considerably higher in your "You get ONE exotic for the rest of your life" thread To op . . . . such a nice car. Glws John.
I have a blue one as well, i hope you are asking top dollar for the car. The market is very strong for good cars. Good luck with the sale
This was one of the cars I dreamed about as a kid, along with Robin Master's Ferrari wish it was in my budget. GLWS.
Single owner for 35 years! And around 300/miles per year! Where will anyone find another like that? Amazing
I recently purchased a 2002 M5, and then bought one of those books that has a bunch of road tests of M5s for the first 3 generations. Several of the articles in the book are South African car magazine road tests of the early M cars- I'm not sure why. It seems they had a relatively high number of BMW imported there in the 60's and 70's (or maybe just for whatever reason the book had several South African articles- it's an English language book so maybe that had something to do with it)? Anyway, the period South African articles on the first generation M5 (and M535i- basically a predecessor to the m5, essentially stick sport 535 that did not have an M1-based motor and I don't believe was offered in the US under that name anyway...) all mention the uber BMW from a few years prior: the M1! I'm sure South Africa got a few of them, including this one. After many years of seeing pictures in car books, I finally was/am able to see an M1 in the flesh as a regular at our car and coffee meet has an orange one. Beautiful car. I even got to sit in it
That's disgusting!!!! (but now that you mention it, me too.... ) On a serious note, what a driveable (edit: not so) "exotic" with that venerable six. To hell with 300 miles a year.
When I was growing up in my hometown (mid 80's), local guy from a super wealthy family had one....he beat the crap out of it. I remember the rock chips and dents...was regularly parked outside our "hottest" nightclub. This was during the Miami Vice days, he was relegated to second place when a bad guy moved here with his new Countach and Corniche. Exciting times for a teenager that loved cars. Oh, M1 was red. Lamborghini was white and had the clutch replaced twice by a friend of mine...bad guy used to let the tarts drive the car....
