Think this Needs a Special thread. A Street Legal F355 Challenge on Auction. This will be really interesting to follow. It's NOT my Car ;-) but I spoke to the owner, Car is clean and in very good condition. Good paperwork ans Service is done. Good Luck for the sale.

Street Legal 1996 Ferrari F355 Challenge For Sale by Artcurial Auction in Paris

    French title
    Chassis # ZFFPR41B000104532

    – Real street legal F355 Challenge
    – Refurbishment at great expense
    – Rare registered F355 Challenge
    – Car for both road and track

This car, first registered on 28 March 1996 is one of 108 units made of the Type F129 AB. In its original “Gialo Modena” shade, it has undergone a complete refurbishment by Color Dream (bodywork suppliers to Art Grand Prix, the racing team of Frederic Vasseur and Nicolas Prost). The work particularly concerns a complete engine disassembly with the replacement of belts and all joints (the original engine block, in excellent condition, has been preserved and will be provided to the future owner); fefurbished Speedline alloy rims; new F40 LM brake calipers; new dashboard, door panels, windshield and rear window. Furthermore, the original OMP carbon seats were completely restored by Sellerie 3000, from Chatelet-en-Brie (partners of Oreca). A complete picture file is part of the file that comes with the car.
During its racing career, this car took part in the Challenge Ferrari France from 1998 to 2000 through Modena Motors dealership with Alberto Voltoni. The present owner acquired the car in February 2001 from the dealer François Jakubowski and entered the Rallye de Paris and the Ferrari Pirelli Maranello Challenge at Spa in May, before participating in the French Endurance Championship VdeV in the colors of the Kodak, from 2004 to 2007.
Currently the car displays only 17,000km on the odo, and is equipped with the Challenge 99 kit with the rear spoiler in carbon fibre. The car comes with its two technical passports FFSA dated October 18, 1998 and May 31, 2008.
Refurbished with over €40,000 in recent invoices and more than double since 2001, this car is one of the few registered F355 Challenges with clear history. Easily comparable to a Porsche 911 RS, this car had the reputation of being very dynamically balanced and easier to drive. Next year for its 20th birthday, it will be eligible for Ferrari Classiche, this worthy successor to the Ferrari 250 GT SWB is eligible for most of the prestigious competitions, and can reach the track by road.

    Auction estimate: €125 000 / 165 000

Looks very nice. Well preserved example, street legal, race history, checks off all the boxes for desirability. I think the price range is fine.

We wait to see if the market responds and if so it becomes a guide for pricing.

16 % for artcurial , may be 20 % because in france 16% auction fees is for vehicles that are more than 30 years..... 20 % for the others.
then the seller will have to pay back 8% to artcurial has well....

so basically , if the hammer falls at 160000 euros
final price for the buyer will be 185600 euros
and the seller will have 147200 euros

the problem is that , those fantastic challenge cars are pretty unknown....
and most of the potential buyers are looking at the estimate price given by the auction house, in order for the final price to be the high estimate ( including fees and taxes )
in my opinion the hammer will fall down at 140000
so final price price will be 162400 ( high estimate 165000 )
and the seller will get 128800.....
the estimate for this car is too low ! ( in my opinion )

Surprised that the wheels don't have any centre caps fitted, its a small thing but shows a lack of attention to detail. The radio delete plate is missing too.
The dash looks like its covered in alcantara, which is nice, but not original and there are a bunch of extra indicators on the passenger side of the dash.
Strange too that there is no picture of the engine bay or the inside of the front compartment.

centre caps usually absent on race cars, they fly off anyway due to intense heat :)

I got my dashboard recently covered in Alcantara, too, simply because I like the look a lot more. But I have a spare "original" dashboard on the shelf so the car could be returned to it´s former state within one evening. 2nd hand dashboard for a 355 can be found around 1700 Euros.
The centre caps on my former race-cars usually went flying after a few laps on track so not a problem either.
Really looking forward to the auction-result.

Does this imply 108 Challenge cars even though people like Rob have been able to identify a few hundreds all over the world?

The source of the often quoted 108 number is Cavallino magazine but its incorrect.

Correct, just as there are more than 32 348 challenge cars. Probably over 100. Street legal is another contentious issue. My challenge was street legal in France but not here.

    Hello ,

I am the owner of the F 355 challenge on sale for the Artcurial Sale, and yes you are right the headlight and front trunk were not aligned. But this will be fixed, as we will do it this week after having put back the engine.
The car will be in perfect condition ,over 49 000 € were spent during restauration, it has original OMP carbon seat , original steering wheel, it is legal road legal (not 108 are street legal I heard 70 only ??), kit 98/99 , a nice racing history etc.... the only difference compared to the way it was when I bought it , is that the leather in the interior has been replaced by F40 type Alcantara.
if you have any question feel free....

not sure how much this car will bring, given the bad results of Arizona auctions for Ferraris. Although I think it is good and deserves a good price. That also put into question the fact of selling these cars at auction in my opinion, because of the high commissions.
