I very much doubt that - here is another Challenge that is being sold at a dealer where the car can be checked out properly for less than that:

    https://kroymans.nl/stock/stock-detail/10839036/Ferrari/360/challenge---kroymans-ferrari

So why would anyone pay more than that for an unknown and unchecked car at auction?

I see that there is also an issue with the title, with the auction house warning that: "Please note this lot is currently under an order of seizure ... Sotheby’s will liaise with the appointed administrator for release of the seizure ... etc".

Hence it is even unsure whether it will get a clear title - and you all know what the Italian legal systems is like!

FWIW I don't think this auction car is a 2000 Challenge car. It looks like a 2001 or later car based on the side impact roll cage bars. No 2000 Challenge cars had a dual set up. They all had a single side impact bar.

Serial number is ZFFYR51B000131424 - early 2000 360CH cars all have a SN in the 11xxxx range.

What does this mean - is a 2000 better than a 2001 or later car, or does it make little difference?

Difference I see is the two bars against the doors for side impacts. All the drivers in the 2001 challenge series that had 2000 models wanted to retrofit their cars for safety reasons but were told it was not possible. In otherwords 2001 versions should be more valuable

2000 year engines had a problem with cam shaft slippage too. So bad it would blow an engine. That flaw was able to be fixed.

My 2000 car was serial number #118780

I have also come across to the RM action, looking at buying the lightweight 750 Alfa Giulietta Sprint Veloce, the 360 Challenge and an Alfa based 1962 hydroplane.

Today the Alfa sold for twice (or more) what it should have - and as people have said, crazy prices that no-one seems to understand...

Hence, although I will attend tomorrow to see what happens with the 360 Challenge and an hydroplane, I don't see myself having any realistic chamce of buying them at close to the current / correct values.

This auction seems to be a major aboration, especially seeing that classic car values are currently flat / in slight decline!

My main take-away is: why an I looking to buy here and not trying to off-load some of my cars here!!??

Interesting! Is this a turing point of the market gaining momentum again? - I would have thought that after such a flat year, such a mass-auction might in fact cause a collaps of the market, rather than seeing high prices; particularly as many of the pieces are in bad shape, lack papers etc - maybe you should not sell your cars yet :)...

I honestly think these will look like bargain prices in 10 years.

But look compared to the 430 or 458. It's a bargain. The 360C isn't difficult to track and maintain.
