For me the total wrong auction for a car like this, but OK. No VIN, no Details etc.,... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hard to tell without a VIN, but the only Challenge stuff I see are Speedline wheels, a front tow hook, and some stickers. From what I can see it doesn't have the OMP seats/belts, roll cage, etc., etc. . . .
Yes, this car is 86947 It raced in 94, 95 and 96 and traveled to Italy... Driver was Kurt Carlson #32 - Dealer was Lake Forest Sportscars It did have the cf seats and cage back then. Here are some photos of its livery with missing graphics. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
Vin is ZFFG36AXL0086947 Auctioneer indicates that the car also comes with original red / carbon fiber race seats and OMP cage... Estimated to sell at 60-65k usd I am guessing it would go for more... This is not a "messy" challenge car according to the auctioneer. It received a platinum concours back in 1994 - but that was obviously early in its career. Robb
Early (1994) photos, I'd guess, since they appear to predate the change to Speedline wheels. By the way, the gray #26 next to this car is mine (#98791- a "factory Challenge tb).
I know that car very well! I did a painting of it in the 90's for Kurt. What a great guy! My wife and I were heading down I-20 in SC (me in the passenger seat trying to get a few zzz's) when my wife says "There's a Ferrari! It's Kurt Carlson!" Now my wife is no slouch. She knows cars, but I had just assumed that it was some kitcar that she was looking at. I asked her why she thought it was him? "Because it has a 32 on the side along with his name!" I opened my eyes and sure enough, it was his car! We then began a twelve mile chase before catching up to him at a McDonalds! He had been golfing in Myrtle Beach with his brother, who was performing at the Hard Rock Café. His brother is Brad Carlson, better known as Bun E. Carlos, the drummer for Cheap Trick. Kurt also spent the night in that car, trapped in a snowstorm in NC, on his way to Cavallino! A lot of good stories with that car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Adrian, I read that story about Kurt being in a snowstorm... didn't know it was this car. Great stories. Thanks for posting! Robb
THANKS, Robb! The only Grigio Met. 348 factory Challenge car, and the red interior really sets it off nicely IHMO.
