Anyone know the proper care and cleaning of the OEM car covers?

See a couple marks on mine and was hoping to get them off. Any help would be much appreciated, aside from "throw them in the washer and see what happens."

I may just do that but I didn't know if there were any specific instructions.

+1 it's usually the tire dressing that leaves those black stains
the public laundromat has large machines that accommodate large covers
used them on occasion to wash my cover with no harmful results so far

This is a good thread - I have been wanting to wash mine as well. How do you dry the cover? In a machine or somehow air dry it or line dry it?

Hilarious, I can just imagine pulling up to a public laundromat in my Ferrari to wash the red satin car cover. There's gotta be a joke rolled up in there somewhere!!!! :)

"Why did the Ferrari owner use the public laundromat? Because he had to sell his washer & dryer for money to buy parts!"

"Why did the Ferrari owner use the public laundromat? Because his maid was off for the week and his housekeeper called in sick!"

FWIW, I would never ask my maid or housekeeper to wash my car cover! :p

i put it in the large dryers they have there and set it on the low temp.....i think too much heat would make the cover unhappy..:)

Thanks for the replies and feedback guys. I have a couple delicate stain treaters so I'll see how they work.

And thanks for the jokes! The visual of a Ferrari at a laundromat had me laughing.

I found with public large tumble washing machines, they are often overloaded with soap from previous users. So you may think about running one cycle empty with no soap. Then wash the car cover, probably with something mild, like Woolite.

Read somewhere to rub shaving cream into the stain...tried it myself and it works. Give it a go! Good luck.

I don't know the details of the original cover, but if it's cotton then a light wash should be OK.

If it was the 'neoprene' breathable ones then I'd be more careful about using any detergent as I think there's a chance it could block the pores and make it less breathable.

You don't have to take your Ferrari to the laundromat, you can use your DD instead

Thanks for this thread. Been wondering myself. Since it's not something I'll have to do that often, think I will go dry cleaners. Post a price after if anyone's interested.

I have an original Ferrari cotton cover for my Mondial T, 24 years old. I had it washed at a local laundromat in one of those big washers. I used a basic Arm and Hammer laundry soap and only 2/3 of the recommended amount. I made sure the machine was set to cold water, gentle cycle. Air dried it on a big rack for a few hours.

Total cost: $7.50. Possibly the least amount of money spent on a Ferrari in history.

Perfect, no issues, no shrinkage, no seams opened up. Nice and clean. Happy camper.

I just purchased an OEM one for my 430, it is 100% polyester, so it says wash on cold no heat dry.

I wash all my covers, both cotton and synthetic.
I use a large laundromat washer in a nearby condo complex where my MIL lives.
Very little soap, gentle setting, and air dry (no dryer)
I pre-treat the tire marks with Simple Green.
Near perfect results, all but the toughest tire marks come out.

I have washed my cover in the washing machine several times and no problem whatsoever. Just use gentle soap and don't apply fabric softeners.
