I have been detailing my own cars for the past 30 years.. Yes I started in my teens. It is an escape for me.. I Love it! Earlier this year, I was told about a new product by a friend. I rarely try new when there is no need to but I had to Inquire. I have been using the tried and true 4 step method by Griots...with a zymol topcoat. You cannot go wrong..but I wanted better. With the recent aquistion of a 1994 512TR..in Black..I was up against the toughest of the toughest finishes to prepare for a concours showing... That is a non clearcoated soft glasurit finish in Black..virtually impossible to eliminate all swirl marks...but I was ready to try.. 1st step call Larry Kosilla..owner and producer of AMMO products. I then watched all his paint finish videos. I sent my first order in and recieved it 2 weeks ago. This particular 512 is in super original shape, with only a need for a final polish coat. Larry Suggested his Jewelers polish..then his defense coat and finally his creme wax.. That was enough for me to start my expedition.. I have asked Larry to sign into Ferrarichat and expect him to post in the near future. Here are some shots of 2 weekends worth of jewelers polishing by DA and by hand.. polish only no wax. In flourescent light all swirls are gone , in incandescent there are still a few to go, I am close though .. however I will keep polishing a little longer, after that the next step is Defense coat which works similar to a glaze as it fills in any swirls left.. allow to cure and then wax...I tried his wax, easiest I have ever encountered as far as removal. Amazing product does not begin to describe what Ammo has here. Such little effort, such great results.. Every item goes on and off effortlessly...a real pleasure to work with.. Larry is now my Hero!!!! Videos | AMMO NYC Voila!...zero orange peel. Love Cosilla vids, I have been subscribed to him forever. I would love for him to be a new F-Chat member!
I use AMMO products on my cars weekly and can say they are the best I've ever used. Larry's /Drive Clean video series is awesome as well.
I need to try some of his products. Seen the videos…. they are awesome! The guy really knows his stuff and clearly loves what he does.
In all Fairness...I must give credence to Glasurit paint...it is the Ultimate Paint. All Ferraris of the 80's and early 90's were un clear coated and super soft paint...this lends itself to absolute polishing...I removed an entire coat with fine polish , I am crazy for Ammo jewelers polish as it comes on strong and breaks down as you use it till it clears itself out in front of your eyes....Marvelous! Larry, Now can I get a 10% comission on your new sales!!! (LOL) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What is really crazy is that this paint is so vulnerable. If in the 80's you used say a bathroom towel to dry this paint You would ruin the finish immediatly. Thank god for microfibre The only wax back then that i remember was simonize Imagine a bathroom towel and a can of simonize on these cars!!!! Might as well use sandpaper and vasoline!
This paint has no point where you can say...OK , I'm done.. You keep polishing and it keeps getting better.. I am almost ready to wax it.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Done 2 polishings with AMMO jewelers polish 2 applications of Defense coat 3 applications of AMMO top coat wax... In day light I see no swirls at all, in flourescent , nothing either...certain angles with incandescent spotlights..I see minor angle hair swirls.. I can live with it... Really Happy with this product line.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks fake it's so good! Tell us about the Defense coat. Does it have protective qualities or is if generally a filler?
I was a little mixed up too, about what the defense coat was.. In my conversation with Larry K , he told me it had fill qualities but was not a glaze.. It is about building up a hard shell finish that defends itself from towels scratches and " Love Marks " The trick is it takes 24 hours to cure each coat...so I let it sit between weekends.. I can't tell it from a wax , but the application is much more into the paint than the wax is.. actually I remember pigment coming off as it was applied. All in all, I think it is well suited to naked paint as the open pore pigment absorbs depth with each application...as opposed to a sealed top coat clear coat , you only work on clear. I think I read yesterday that AMMO or Larry Kosilla was either nominated for or received the Detailer of the year award.. This guy has integrity for sure.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
BTW... I used Griots windshield polish with a DA random orbital and the results were staggering.. It makes a difference.. You wouldn't think so but it is a must now on every detail.
How has the ammo products been holding up? I'm guessing you washed the car by now? I want to order some products soon, I hope to get results like you did....
With any botique wax You really cannot expect longevity You can expect superior results but those results must be maintained constantly Carnuba waxes dissapate with washes Only the high tech chemical waxes last 6 months I am a fanatic so i will never see the degredation in my shine I do think he has the it product....
