Didn't have a tree or a ***** footed high heel shoe to give it a try, but just the other day had to open a bottle using a 2 1/2" deck screw and a pair of channel lock pliers. That for sure worked.

I have tried the shoe thing and it works but the bottle has to have a relatively deep punt.

    Flattish bottom bottle will break.

I'm having trouble understanding how it works.
Wouldn't the inertia of the cork force it into the bottle rather than out?
    I'm confused.

Okay, tried this last night with a chilled white having a plastic cork. A basement wall substituted for a tree and my bedroom slipper for the Italian loafer.
    Nothing, zip, scata happened.
Being indoors I was perhaps too timid about hitting it but all this did was serve to make a bit of ice in the bottle.

I have noticed white wine corks are more difficult to remove. Haven't a clue why.

See: How to open a bottle of wine with a shoe!

It works well but I use the shoe to hit the bottom of the bottle ... Easier indoor ...

Why did it cause ice to form inside the bottle? The contained pressure/temperature shouldn't have changed from the small impact.

Bring a screw top bottle - no problems.
