My very close friend who lives in Westchester County, NY has decided to offer his fantastic wine collection for sale.
It consists essentially of magnificent Bordeaux and a few other things. I have attached the list.
The prices offered are 10% below those shown on the list.
All wines were bought at Royal Wine and were kept by seller in optimum conditions for perfect aging.
Seller will not "sell by the bottle" nor does he expect to sell the whole collection in one transaction.
He will consider offers on balanced lots (in terms of price per bottle) of a reasonable size.
I am not financially interested in this transaction whatsoever. As soon as seller will indicate to me his interest in a proposed transaction, you will deal directly with him.
I am just helping a very close friend who does not own a Ferrari (nobody is perfect!) and thought this could be a good forum for such exceptional wines.
    Please PM me if interested.

Nope, Tom: the Chinese are not buying any more "Grands Crus Classés" since the new "anti-corruption" offensive of their new government. Buying high class wines is now seen as the most obvious clue for dirty money, so they stay put. Sales of the french "first growth" have plummeted the last few weeks. Hope the prices will follow...

Not to mention all of the press (and a conviction or two) of big time collections selling fakes. Some of the big auction houses should have known better...this has put a bit of a chill on the investment grade/great wine purchases. Provenance and a certified chain of passion is critical. Prices were due for an adjustment that's for sure.

should have been "chain of possession" but "passion" was an appropriate mis-type!

Ah come on, Keith; wine is in a way like Ferraris, they should not be considered for investment: just like Ferraris are meant to be driven, wines are meant to be drunk one day or another. Don't wait too long...otherwise the nice bottles will becomes icons, you then hesitate to open them; and when you do, its too late, the wine has passed its optimum window.
My dad always said that the most difficult thing is to decide when to drink a wine, and to stick with your decision when that time is due.

By the way, and back to the topic: hats off to the person who assembled the list included in the topic: not one "faux pas", I'm truly impressed!

Obviously since I own a winery I attend and read a lot of industry seminars and clipping services. Counterfeit wine is all over the headlines. Current estimates are 55% of the Bordeaux on the market today is fake. Chinese containers of the stuff are being confiscated all the time. Lewis Perdue has a story about it almost everyday now.
    Madness.

Those are just a few. Like I said, over HALF of the Bordeaux on the market today is fake with more on the way.

    Here is an updated list.
About ⅓ of the collection has been sold.
New prices reflect a 10% discount as mentioned in the original posting.
