If you could pick any driver lineup, living or deceased, along with any car from any era, which would you choose? Assume the driver is at the top of his game.

    I'll start.

I would love to have seen Senna and Mansell in a Ferrari F2004.

But I expect egos would have gotten the better of them both with respect to team harmony.

F2004 - probably the quickest F1 car around a track so it would be the obvious choice if i would kick of a fantasy season to get the best possible results in theory.

    Senna
    Hamilton

    Cool thread!

Let's see... all in the F2004 for obvious reasons...

Hamilton and Alonso (just to drive the point home. again)

Schumacher and Fangio (to prove what we already all know)

Schumacher and Senna (to find out what we all wonder)

Hamilton and Senna (to find out)

Schumacher and Hamilton (in a wet race - who is the real rain master)

Coulthard and Barrichello (they both think they are way better than they really are - I wonder who'd be worse)

Don't forget the OP said "at the top of his game." MS past his prime. Besides, Gilles was the REAL rain master.

Gilles and Bellof in the F186. All turbo year in the end of the line Forghieri Ferrari. Not a great car against some of the greats. Would they have fared better than Albo and Johansson ? Would have been fun to find out, nothing better than watching the best driving second best..;)

    *Mansell!* Surely, you're joking?

Mansell isn't fit to carry Ayrton's jock!..... [Actually, he isn't fit to carry the jock of any of those mentioned above - 'cept *maybe* Bellof [EDIT - and even that's questionable!]

Fangio, Jim Clark & the Schu - Perm any two from three.

    Car - Who cares?....... :)

    Cheers,
    Ian

I *really* wanted to include Gilles on my list, but as awesome as he was, he never reached "the top of his game." :(

    Oh, what might have been......

    If I was *forced* down to two, I guess SRTMike's;

    Would have to be it.

Anyone here ever see Fangio drive? [To save the young 'uns looking, he retired in '58 ;)]

    Cheers,
    Ian

While we're fantasizing, rinse & repeat using a 250F Maserati (or similar.....)

    Why all the Mansell hate?

Maybe I am bias because I was in the UK in my youth watching him live on the box but he was definately a great driver.

    Your right, there amazing stats.

Its interesting to note that Fangio and Clark are 1st and 2nd in the percentages for race wins, poles, and fastest laps.
And due to Clark driving in a more professional and competitive era, i personally think his record is even more unbelievable!
