Can anyone confirm if true and the dates?
Formula 1® - The Official F1® Website I like it, especially if they drop korea and india stays off the calendar.
Final calendar will be published in December. 3 races are still provisional so while the dates have been established the races themselves might not happen. Rumours suggest that NJ is still 50/50.
I'm still hoping for NY. I'll do Mexico in 2015 (after they got their first time jitters out of the way). Still undecided over next year if NY doesn't happen: Montreal, Spa or Monza? Montreal is logistically easy and might be its last race (according to some rumors). Spa is a friggin nightmare but one I haven't been to (because it is a nightmare). Monza is easy but would be a threepeat, making it a bit predictive.
Really hope nj happens though i thought it was definitely axed. They need to lose korea, singapore, and valencia those circuits are so bad. Not enough overtaking
Montreal will be renewed; rest assured. You should really go to spa (not that I've been there) Just for the history and experience
I hear you about Montreal and would tend to agree. I've been to Spa, even drove the track, when it was still public roads, but never been to a GP there. I'm shooting for that one next year, but it all comes down to logistics (hotel and flights) of whether we can do this or not.
First time jitters? This isn't Mexico's first rodeo. Sure it's been a couple decades since the last race there, but the infrastructure is already there. Close to the airport, plenty of hotels, the track already exists, only needs to get brought up to FIA modern standards.
I know that but any new F1 race is a big risk the first time around before the organizers figure out a few things.
People act like this is a week long job or something. I've heard this track is in rough shape. MEGA project to get it FIA-certified. Plus that area of town may have changed since the last GP 20 years ago. You may not WANT to stay in any of those hotels.
People act like there is NO track and they are starting from scratch. When COTA broke ground, how many months was it till race weekend? There were a lot of skeptics that it wasn't gonna be done in time. They were able to complete the track in time, and that was starting from nothing. We are like 14 months away from the Mexican Grand Prix, I'm sure they can bring it up to par in that amount of time.
Also remember ... COTA was funded by privately raised capital (with a potential for public/government support, if the positive economic impact met certain goals). I don't know the details of funding in Mexico, but with government financial support (and Carlos Slim, of course) things can probably happen pretty quickly. It's not simply "how much time for construction", another BIG part of the equation is "how fast can funding happen".
Thanks. Might not mean much overall but if transit has issued alerts at least its a sign something is going on.
Construction work starts next week at the old track to get it up to today's F1 standards for next year's GP. SPEEDWEEK Formel 1 - Mexiko-GP 2015: Umbauarbeiten beginnen endlich I'm planning on hitting that GP next year.
Was in Weehawken on Saturday night, and saw no work being done in the areas I understood the track would be in.
