Adrian Newey pays Webber a visit in Silverstone | News | Motorsport.com
From an engineering point of view, I rate the World Endurance Championship as much of a challenge than F1, less the politics, the BS, etc... I am not surprised that a top designer like Newey could consider it. After all, Ross Brawn, Tony Southgate and others designed Le Mans cars too. That would be another trophy in his portfolio.
Was watching the special on Gordon Murray who stated his best achievement has been winning LeMans and saw Newey was at Silverstone ... Better than designing boats, right?
Not according to Newey, based on what I've read/heard about him. Red Bull had a real fight on their hands to get him to sign a new contract and it's been noted that he's handed a lot of the design work over to others to try and make his eventual departure less disruptive to the team. Basically, he wants to design his beloved racing boats before it's too late, and designing cars for Le Mans is not going to help that happen.
