The German delegation was very nice, while in Brazil. They bought land months in advance of the world cup. Used local contractors to build a hotel, school, paved roads, and other amenities. The players and staff stayed there with their families. They walked around in local Villages, mingled with the locals, went to festivities and in essence became locals too absorbing the culture. They played well, they won the Cup with merit both in the soccer field and outside the stadiums too. Most importantly, they defeated Brazilians' biggest rivals in SA, Argentina. What Brazilians feared the most ? an Argentina World Cup winn inside Maracana. Thanks Germany for that. That's why 100% of Brazil was supporting Germany even after the 7x1 defeat. In contrast, the 100,000 Argentinians in Rio littered the streets, camped everywhere, and left the City in a messy situation. Best of all, after the world cup, the Germans gave the keys to what they built to the locals for their enjoyment. Classy act Germany. Congrats
Very classy actions by the Germans, it would appear! And a very memorable helmet for Nico. I've always enjoyed being in Germany, and I wish their F1 drivers well in their home GP (Lewis, shut up). I hope the fans at the track demonstrate some support for Michael, and, if so, I hope he can perceive those good vibes.
Initially called the Jules Rimet Trophy...till it was stolen, and replaced with the current 'cup'. Better sounding then World Trophy, IMO.
Yes on the first part, and it was indeed stolen - I'm pretty sure in England in '66. It was then however found in a hedge by a little dog called 'Pickles' and returned. Brazil got to keep it after they won it three times - that's what prompted the need for a new one. I believe once someone wins this one 3 times they too get to keep it. All from memory, so I could be wrong. Cheers, Ian
Once again, a good job I'm not using a real keyboard right now. I'd *love* to check Bernie's shed! Aren't the stories (unconfirmed?) that he now has one of the biggest/best collections of F1 cars anywhere? Then he also apparently has crate fulls of new DFV's plus boat loads of spares for them. Not sure why..... Cheers, Ian
