So who among these single WC drivers in recent years was the best in your opinion? It could be argued that if not for Adelaide, Hill would have been a 2-time WDC, and I would rate Hill and Villenueve as right up there with Nico Rosberg, David Coulthard, and Heinz Harald Frentzen.

I think this is a no-brainer because Hill was de worst w.c of all times...im his best days he would not even be a top 5 driver, not even close!!! Button is better, faster, more inteligent, but also far from a great champion. He simply was lucky with the car, and in the second half of the season his team mate was being faster than him...and taking in acount who his team mate was this can not be a good thing. I also remenber massa with the f60 beating him at Silverstone, wich says a lot about the talent diference between them..of course in 2009 massa was probably the fastest driver in the field....as for jacques, i think he was much better than his results showed. he won Indycar when it still mattered, he won Indy 500, and nearly won f.1 at first atempt...sure he had the best car but still he had skills..except in the wet where he sucked a bit. His overtaking in estoril to Shumacher proves theres was definitly some Gilles DNA on him.

He would have been 2-time WDC if not for Adelaide, unless you are telling me that Rory Bryne is not all he is cracked up to be.

Well, considering Button only narrowly beat Lewis when they were teammates, I'd say Button is the least talented.

Give me a brake, in 04 he had more 4 races than Shumi and still he was trailing him at the last race...if he had won it would be a scandal!!!

So if Lewis beats Nico or Nico narrowly beats Lewis and Nico beat MS...I see your logic ;)

Lewis has already beaten nico last year :p

I think the answer is button tbh.

JV was semi good for a few years then turned to absolute sht
DH had a car better than everyone else and not very assertive on track
JB also has a rediculously good car for first half of season for his win

    But I think he is the best because;

    A) his career has been very long and consistently decent results
    B) he beat LH in one season so he's no slouch

What about it? He won more races than everyone else, he made more points and he was driving a legal car wich was built without using informations from other teams....looks pretty good to me.

Damon Hill has more talent than the current guys you mentioned. When you really look at his record - he was usually up there on the podium. he also raced with the BEST - Prost & Senna as teamates and Schumacher as a rival.

Villeneuve was very strong but was not able to work the team or the car as well as Schumacher... when Williams lost Newey Villeneuve could not compensate. same at BAR he was hopeless.

    Button, then Hill, then NewTown.

Button did well against Hamilton, beat him once over a full season. Won the Championship in the best car, sure, but so did 90% of all other WDC's.

I don't think Hill gets the credit he deserves. Adelaide was always frustrating to watch as it almost seems like it wasn't on purpose, but it kinda looks like it was.

I was surprised to read that as well. I remember when everyone (myself included) thought that LH would wipe the floor with Button. They thought the same with Rosberg. Neither happened.

    +1

Certainly we in the peanut gallery didn't hold out much hope for good old JB early on.

And yep, Nico was going to get his doors blown off too according to many.

As you say, neither has/is happening......

    Cheers,
    Ian
