Not difficult to see how the driver could be thrown out of there in the event of an end-over-end flip.

Yes, Fiorano 1980. No exact date, so not sure if T4 or T5 (can anyone tell from the picture?)

Nice and rare photos. The drivers were really vulnerable back then.

Indeed! Problem was of course doesn't work at all with ground effects - no where for the air to flow under the car.

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS, thanks from me too for the pix, way cool!

Also meant to ask, what the hell were they doing running it like that?

    :D

Makes as much sense as anything else I can think of. ;)

Seriously, I *guess* it was something to do with cooling the beast. But I can't imagine Adrian buying in today! :(

    Cheers,
    Ian

Most likely testing the motor before the body was available.
Tough to tell but it looks like a turbo chassis with a twelve.
    ??

Not that there needed to be a reason.

Hadn't looked at it that way. But now you mention it, I think you could very well be right. ;) Looking at it that way, the layout ("packaging" nowadays of course) makes little sense otherwise.....

    Or;

Guido; "but Gilles, we no'wa hava ze body! Ze painta shoppe at luncha!"
Gilles; "**** it, just lemme drive it...."

    Indeed. ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

i believe it´s a t5, the nose cone it's a bit longer than on the t4...also the t5 had serious troubles cooling the engine, so this could be the reason why they're runing it like that, perhaps the engine was overheating and they simply removed the hood in order to carry on testing...anyway amazig pics from "the man"

    Another cool picture, thanks!

Looks like a transitional model from 126CK to 126C2?

Ian, when testing, time is of the essence, so to reinstall all of the body would take too long between tweaks. Could best testing oversteer, understeer, seat adjustment, etc.
